Title: Darkside intercooler.
Post by: ashw831 on January 08, 2013, 09:56:10 am
Been looking for a cooler, as I have spoke to Rtech and they have advise that I get a FMIC to compliment my induction and Decat and get the best out of a stage 2 map.

Has anyone had any experience with the Darkside universal Intercoolers? The company seems to be pretty big and with it being a proper company i wouldnt think that they would sell something that would inhibit performance an not work in a way that goes against what they are stating would they???

This is the product in question..

And is nice and cheap too :-)

They get some decent results out of all the diesels... Can't comment on the FMIC you mention but I bought my alloy s3 one from them and had top notch service!

Where are you going to source your IC hoses as they don't appear to come with it, Also will you be pairing this with your present IC "a la Forge Twintercooler" or will your present IC become a dead weight?

Surely the current cooler is removed and the pipe work used in to the new cooler??

That is the set ups I have seen on al, turbo cars.. Is the golf not like that no?

I have just been scouring the fitting guides on the net and I have found this out, now that the cooler on the golf is in the middle of the radiator and a/c cooler isn't it!!

I think I may go for the option of just using a single front mount (the same as the vf-engineering one). That surely has to be better than the original set up where it is sandwiched between two other coolers? It will then be the furthest forward and at the lowest point on the car with nothing blocking the cold air...???

For that front mount IC you will need new hoses as the present oem ones won't work, wrong shape and not long enough.

Bringing my thread back to life...

FMIC now fitted and car pulls awesome, and makes a lot more turbo noise on WOT now. However, as you may have seen, in the random chat section, my wife is pregnant and it has now made me think about if I should go to stage 2 or not? I know I am pretty much there with all the hardware and I don't mind the cost to have the map done, it is just the repocussions after the map with the other parts. Am I going to need to fork out £1k for a new clutch and then if any other parts start going due to the extra strain??

I don't drive heavy a lot of the time, I cruise to work on a dual carrage way at 65-70 each way, I just can't help a bit of boost up to the speed limits through 2nd and 3rd.

Just looking for people's experience with stage 2 and how long standard parts lasted before the costly upgrades where needed. Alternatively I may just get a bike... :happy2:

Thanks

If its an edition30 stage 2 from experience will require an uprated clutch...

If ya happy with it, stick with it as you are...

Just a gti for me unfortunately.

Might just leave it as it is and see how I get on in the near future :-)

That's the only pic I took. Fitting was a piece of urine! Took about 3.5 hours in all, including fabricating my own pipe work for it!!
