Title: New member from South Somerset
Post by: andyR43 on January 11, 2013, 04:34:54 pm
Hi all, my name is Andy and I am a shopfitter who lives in South Somerset. I purchased my 2006 Mk5 Golf Gti just before Christmas. The car is a 5 door, steel grey, DSG with leather and a stage1 Superchip running approx. 240BHP. I'm more than happy with the way the car is at the moment as both myself and the wife drive the car but intend to make a few, possibly only minor, changes. (As I spent over £25k modifying my last car this last sentence should not be taken as gospel!).

Looking forward to becoming an active member on this site and hopefully gaining lots of info from you all.  :drinking:

Welcome!

Reading through your into and thought you said you were a shoplifter!

I'm debating buying a chip, any kind of lag?

Cheers all thanks for the welcome.  :happy2:

Haha yep I'm a professional shoplifter   :signLOL:

I find the Superchip stage1 pretty lag free to be honest and it feels quite torquey low down as well, so no need to rev the pants off the car! Also I'm loving the DSG box.

Haha I thought 'at least he's being honest'  :signLOL:

Oooooo I might have to invest. Can you change between standard and the chip when you want?

I'd love to comment, but mines a manual. Kinda regretting it now with all the traffic jams I sit in!

No changing between standard and the chip on mine but I wouldn't want to anyway as there is absolutely no need. The car drives very smoothly when pottering around and picks up nicely when needed.

It would be for selling the car purposes only really!

That sounds good. Investment time I think! Glad you're enjoying it

Cheers for the welcome guys.  :happy2:   I'm hoping that, when I get a bit of free time, I'll be able to attend a few track days to get the measure of the car and meet a few people. I used to attend a few in my previous car and have been to the Nurburgring a few times which is always good fun.  :driver:

Ah good old Templecombe eh. I used to live in Henstridge before I lived in Galhampton so I used to drive through Templecombe most days. A local meet sounds like a good plan as it would be good to hear peoples experiences and ideas.  :drinking:

My last car was a 1998 UK spec R33GTR, one of only 100 produced. I used it as a road legal track car and, with just under 600bhp and 525ft/lb torque, it was quite nippy. I tracked it around tracks such as The Nurburgring, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe, RAF Marham, Llandow etc. The clutch alone cost £1600  :scared:

Here's a couple of pics:-

I bought the car in 2005 and moved from Henstridge at the end of 2010.
