Had a good search round here trying to find if there are any distinguishable differences in strength between the AXX block and the BWA, no luck so far :sad1:. I know about the piston & rods being different and lower CR on the BWA. Main question is does the BWA have casting revisions over the AXX to beef it up at all or are they pretty much the same block.

Same block. Rods and crank are the same too. Just the pistons that were different.
CDL and BHZ have a slightly different block casting and the pistons and rods are different.

Thanks Alex, that was a quick and painless response. :happy2:

On your v5 the beginning of the engines serial no is the engine type

If your talking about blocks, both AXX &BWA they both have the sane block.
Vw changed from AXX to BWA around 2006 IIRC.
AXX had forged pistons, not sure if they are any stronger though. Either way, they can handle about 360bhp before breaking rods & piston rings :happy2:
Code is on the left side of the engine (cam belt cover)

Ideal, thank you :) :happy2:
