I brought a rns 510 sat nav, and fitted it in and have no sound.
It reads the sd card files, finds all the radio station, reads cd and hdd but no sound at all. I scanned it using vag com and it's saying " speakers short to ground" but when I fit my standard unit, every thing works fine and all speakers work as they should! Spent alt of money and the guy showed me it working in his car but I tried it in my car and no sound
-
Is the connector to the back of the unit properly locked in?
-
did it come out of a car with the vw sound system
-
Im not sure if the car it came out of had sound system, I tried change the sound system settings in vag com but no joy,
When check fault codes, it comes up wit all speakers short to ground.
Could it be a faulty unit? When I add the standard unit, the speakers work fine.
Iv checked all connections and they are in properly and locked in.
-
But if you saw it working in his car... how can it have broken between then and now?
-
Isn't there a speaker test you can do in VCDS?

Isn't there a speaker test you can do in VCDS?
Yes there will be in the Radio section.
-
I seen it working in his car and since then Iv had the sat nav sitting at home in the garage.
Iv tested the speakers threw the vagcom and all speakers make sounds when I test them.
It's strange fault. Gona find a good audio tech.
-
Can you do screenshots of your coding?
-
Sounds like a coding issue then if the speakers work in the output test.
-
I'm gona try get screen shots, borrowed the vagcom off a mate.
Another problem was that when I used the navigation, it picked up my location that I was in Germany! Lol
Maybe it just need to be driven around for a while to pick up true position.
-
Ok so I took it to a vw independent specialist and he coded the sat nav. And said that it says
" left front speaker short to ground " and " left rear speaker short to ground" fault code
He said that the "ic" for the left speakers might be blown.
Any 1 know any where that can repair this problem?
Thanks

try your old head unit and see if that still works. That way you can see if the speakers are faulty or not, But i have a feeling its got to do with the coding
-
Iv tried my standard head unit and it works fine, all speakers work. And when I fitt the rns 510 and done the vagcom speaker test, it wudnt play no sound out the left speakers but with the standard unit, all speakers work as they should!
-
has to be the coding, or you have a faulty unit
-
What Eddie says. :happy2:
Have you checked the list in the VCDS section to see if anyone is close.
