:innocent: There's me looking at 2T jacks thinking id have to get one! as my last was 2T.

Think im going to go for a 1.5T racing jack

You're only be lifting part of the car's weight with the jack so no need for a 2 tonne one.

Then again bigger may be better.

I've got this one.

http://www.workshopping.co.uk/product/trolley-jack-15tonne-aluminium-rocket-lift/RJA1500/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shop&utm_campaign=feed (http://www.workshopping.co.uk/product/trolley-jack-15tonne-aluminium-rocket-lift/RJA1500/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shop&utm_campaign=feed)

I realise its a bit more than the ones you've put up. Can't fault the Sealey build quality and the twin piston rocket lift works a treat.

....That looks as if it would cope very well with very low cars (mine has only 95mm road clearance). Do you know if it does?

EDIT: Actually I've just read that its max chassis height is 145mm so I guess it wouldn't work on mine.

Why is the 2.5 tonne version cheaper?

Model No:RJAS2500
Capacity:2.5tonne
Minimum Saddle Height:94mm
Maximum Saddle Height:468mm
Maximum Chassis Height:150mm
Length:592mm
Weight:26kg

In comparison to the one above. Its partly made of steel so heavier and not as low entry.

.
I've just had a phone chat with Workshopping about those lightweight jacks and the saddle height at the jacking point is the critical measurement.

The guy I spoke to was extremely helpful and not at all a hard-sell but more interested in a customer getting what they actually need. He reckoned that a Mk5 Golf would be fine on a 1.5 tonne rated jack especially as the jack wouldn't be lifting up the whole car!

Where are you jacking it up from Robin? Off the sill should be fine as it doesnt go that far in to get to the jacking points.

I was told a 1.25T jack would be fine on a MK5 Golf as again, it isnt lifting the whole car.  :popcornsoda:

....Always safer to use the jacking points. I would have to venture into my car's batcave with my tape measure to check it [says he who actually doesn't need to buy a jack and can't really afford it anyway].

Lidl one looks like a toy to me im sorry.  Doesnt get my vote.

Basically the reason this topic was started was because my current jack, similar to the halfords one doesnt fit under my lowered car.

The halfords one will do a standard height GTi or most other cars not 4x4 (truck)  fine  :happy2:

Why all that expense as those lift pads are cheaper when bought directly from an Audi dealer.
You'll need four of both.

8N0 804 583 - lift pad rubbers, retail ~£1.15 each
8N0 803 855 - lift pad hard inserts, retail ~£2.35 each

Lots of conflicting advice when it comes to these bungs. Allegedly they're designed for a 2 post lift, where the weight is distributed between all 4 points at the same time.

Some for sale here in case anyone wants one?!
