Title: Interesting Noise
Post by: stugolf on July 08, 2009, 09:25:36 am
Hi guys recently bought a MK5 GTI (pics coming soon) it makes a funny (but nice) whoosh noise, basically like a mini dump valve but not half as loud, in fact you to have the window down to hear it, it only happens when you suddenly take your foot off full throttle around 2-3k revs I assumed it was the DV so I took it to Awesome for a Stage 1 remap and asked them to check and replace the DV if neccessary, they say its fine and doesn't need replacing.  The car still makes the same noise after the remap and its no louder than it was before!

Is this normal?

Stu

Sounds pretty normal to me. It will be the wastegate on the turbo expelling used air.  :happy2:

Also worth checking for Mice!  :signLOL: :signLOL:

Cheers, I was just a bit concerned that it shouldn't be doing it as I've heard of lots of DV problems!

Stu i love your method of fixing problems

Get the engine mapped that will sort it.

I wonder if your aircon broke would you do a big turbo conversion.  :signLOL:

The original 2004/5 gti's had a really loud waste gate sound. I notice changing the original dv as a precaution that the g revision makes only a slight noise whereas I could here it dumping air with the windows closed for the first 3 years I owned it. Really miss the noise, wasn't chavvy but interesting enough that people would ask about it.

I was about to say mine is an early 05 and its quite noticable with the radio off inside the car and windows shut.  Its really nice, not too loud but adds something to the experience when your pressing on.  Its a shame if you can't hear this with the newer valves.  Fingers crossed mine lasts a good while longer then!
