Title: precat removal vs milltek downpipe
Post by: Aweful_Truth on January 16, 2013, 09:14:45 pm
im no exhaust expert so whats the difference between having the pre cat removed and a milltek down pipe? ive currently got a milltek cat back but toying with the idea of making it the full turbo back and going stage 2 as i have the rest either in place or ready to go in! have heard about people having the pre cat removed and wondered what this achieves? currently my car is pretty standard, just has a Neuspeed intake and milltek cat back exhaust

Been wanting to do the same thing myself, my exhaust is stock at the moment and just want it to grunt a bit more and pop louder with the dsg gear changes, would a decat allow me to do this on my stock exhaust and where would be the best place to get it done, sorry to hijack!

Pretty sure I read on this forum that a pre cat delete (basically smash it out of the end lol) adds around 6bhp

Think the guys on here did it with a hammer and chisel, would imagine any exhaust place can take it off for you and you can pay them to break it out or do it yourself in the carpark  :happy2: then get them to refit.

You'll have more noise in the cabin, just for your information.

Pre-cat removal FTW!

More bhp gains than fitting a cat-back exhaust  :notworthy:

If you go Milltek, you have to get a downpipe and sports cat for £500+ (or an illegal decat for £290) - you will get more bhp from this than the pre-cat removal but obviously will cost a lot more

So I am able to do a precat on the stock exhaust? No need for a down pipe?

Milltek exhausts don't have a pre-cat in the downpipe, so you couldn't remove it if you tried
