Evening all....
Firstly I know these are illegal.
I want to run a HID kit in some aftermarket Xenon headlights, I have auto lights and I want to keep this feature is this at all possible...?
Secondly... Can anyone reccomend a kit for me I want white light so 6k - 8k and obviously they will need to be compatible with the mk5's as I believe alot bring up the canbus error....?
Ive seen some of the kits have a film on that melts away when first ignited to help produce a better beem pattern, anyone had any expiriences with these at all?
Cheers All :)

I take it you wanted this in the MK5 section?
-
yeh you selling any HIDs? :signLOL:
In theory if you get a set of HIDs, you will need a ballast too. The ballast will regulate the power flow and *should* prevent any bulb out error messages. You can buy canbus-ballasts and canbus-hids, but I have a ballast and HIDs and they work fine.
If your looking for whiter light, you'd need to go towards 5000k as 6000k+ you get the hint of blue.....
I get stuff from HID Direct. No issues so far. X2 ballasts and X2 HIDs. Ideally if you have reflector lenses you'd look to get H7R HIDs as they are designed for the reflector lenses and will pass the MOT. Normal H7 HIDs will of course fit though but may blind people a bit.
I've had no issues at all with my HID in my ownership. Never changed the bulbs yet although I will be soon as one bulb has gone off colour. I am planning to put light tints on the headlights so we'll see how that goes!

Put a set in mine the other week, but they were didn't have a beam pattern and blinding other drivers so I took them back out,are all the kits like this

It's the headlight that makes the beam pattern not the bulb. Are you running projector headlights or reflector ones?

I think that's where H7Rs will come in if your have reflector headlights. Normal H7s will have a tendancy to dazzle others.

Reflector head lights which was might be the problem

Do the h 7r. Produce a proper beam pattern

I'm not familiar with the H7R's but I know the first time I used hids in the mk4 reflectors they had a tendency to dazzle. Its to do with the light intesity being too much for the reflector to cope with. That's why projectors are used as they are able to focus the light better.

Cheers Matt think I will stick to my xenon bulbs :signLOL:

H7Rs are something i've only recently come across. From reading up, they have been designed to go into reflector headlights and are designed specifically for them - as such have a proper beam pattern/allignment.
I've copied a qoute from HIDs4U:
""This is a new H7 bulb designed by us and manufactured only for HIDS4U. Many reflector type headlights produce too much glare when fitted with aftermarket Xenon HID systems. With this new H7R bulb you will get a near perfect beam pattern giving a fantastic HID light.
Fits all our HID systems using an H7 type bulb
Fits all reflector type headlights (not suitable for projector type headlights)
So upgrade now from your existing H7 bulbs and take advantage of a this new and unique anti-glare bulb""

I have used these before, and they do provide a better beam than normal H7 HIDs
-
HAHA yea wrong section my apologies....
So anyone got any knowledge about the auto light function at all?
I need the whole kit i.e balasts and bulbs rather than just bulbs :)
-
HIDS4U do canbus friendly kits with H7R bulbs and ballasts to match.
-
I have 8k in my golf H7r without projectors/xenons
The mrs has an eos with xenons as standard with AFL and corner lights. I changed hers for H7 6k hids and the AFL works as normal. If you are only changing the bulb etc the auto levelling and corner turning will work!

Whats your beam pattern like?
You got standard GTi headlights im assuming?
-
I fitted HID's yesterday. I have aftermarket projector lenses. I put in 3000k ones hoping they would be yellow, but slightly disappointed as they were pretty similar to normal halogen in terms of colour. The beam is a lot brighter though, and definitely a good mod.
-
4100k is the best xenon colour to fit - this is the OEM colour and provides the best light output and look
If you want a little more blue get 5000k.

yea standard gti lights, beam pattern is fine, if the headlights are raised all the way up they are blinding for oncoming drivers but they should be down on normal roads anyway :)
