Title: GTi Coolant questions
Post by: Max99 on January 18, 2013, 02:42:00 pm
Had the 'STOP - coolant warning' it is quite cold here -2 degrees anyway when I turned engine off and on it didn't appear.

Just checked and it's about 1 cm below the Min level.

Now may seem stupid questions but:

i think you should only use VW G12 plus plus or later stuff

You must use VW G12 or VW G12 plus, whatever they state for your vehicle. Mixing different types can react and can cause longer term problems.
Opie Olls do a high quality equivalent if you can wait. Euro car parts used to and prob still do. But in the big scheme of things the cost from VW is not great!

You might have a small leak in your rad too.
I have and mine has needed topping up every couple of months with a drop of G12.

Been quoted £209 for a new rad from midland vw

I had the same issue too, vw benidorm just changed the rad for €425, you might want to get it done as small leaks tend to become LARGE leaks as the g12 stain on the garage floor shows!

dealer will always try to sell you a new rad.
last 2 cars i've put £6 rad weld in it, and gives another 2or 3yrs easy. In fact i've sold both cars with same rad in.

Same happened to ours, will investigate when the ramp is in the workshop. Just topped up with water for now as I don't use the car much at the minute or go far in it.
