4 Months? what drop were you running? were they not replaced under any warranty procedures, I thought you would have got a 12 month warranty on them as standard?

Got me worried with this as I currently have a set in the garage awaiting fitting once I have all the other bits to go with it. I'm changing all the suspension parts, bearings, brakes, anti roll bars, SALK and new tyres in one go a little later this year so I only have to shell out on one trip to the 4wheel alignment specialists for setting up.
I got them in November last year for 170 euro's, direct from the factory as a special deal......... Not sure if i should bother fitting them now

oh great thought they would be ok, maybe i should keep clear of them then only want a entry level set of coilovers, dont want them for track use just for everyday use, any suggestions on anythin not too expensive but thats not cheap rubbish

AP are good value for money and give a half decent ride

This.

I wouldn't put AK streets on a GTI. The AP is the best value for money kit for the GTI.

how much would i be looking at for an AP set and how low will this kit allow the gti to sit as i want very low as im running 18's

This is with about 5mm more to go on the rear and loads more on the front on the S3 and they can be bought for about 450quidish

This was mine on a.p's. it was wound fully down at the rear without the helpers in.

Iv got KWs waiting to go on. A good lowering spring and fixed height suspension kit would be better than the cheaper coilovers. What do you want from them? Comfort? Lowz? Handling?

all i want is as low as i can get and though coilovers would be better as i can lower it exactly how much i want without rubbing too much on the back as i have a 9.5 inch wide rear wheel

I've personally got a set of FK Highsports on my GTI, They go extremely low, there suprisingly comfortable and theres very little harshness.

Obviously buy what you can afford, but if you can invest a little bit more in the Highsports definatly reccomend them Highly. They've got much better damping, they go lower than ap's, eibachs and weitec.

Theres a massive sale in FK Germany at moment have a little search on the net that should help

If theres no budget then the only ones to have are the stillstatic ones they are the best

Also speak to Tuningwerkes aswell theyve always got good offers on to 02086810208

After reading between the lines on a lot of forum threads relating to the FK AK Streets, it seems that the people who have had the most issues are the ones who have dropped the car the lowest they can, does this sound about right to you all?

As I'm only after a matched 35mm ish drop all round and not the 80mm possible from the coilovers, would it sound plausable that these should be fine?

I only want to lower the CoG and remove the tractor look a little as I have far too many speedhumps to negotiate and dont want to start knocking bits off my car just to get into the works carpark twice a day.

Plus as it'll be a case of set and forget ie. they wont be getting adjusted again once fitted, the adjusters will be getting painted up to prevent corrosion and the chance of coming loose.

I had looked into a set of springs but bad experiences with fitting springs in the past has put me off, plus the ride height always seems hit and miss as to whether it's going to sit level or look like the car is braking when sat still.... :popcornsoda:

If you only want a 35mm drop, springs should be the most viable option!

does anyone know if i need uprated drop links or will standard ones be ok

I just fitted jom's to my 06 Jetta for a quick fix as I'm in the same 'tight budget atm' situation. I no most people crusify these coilovers but I ran a set on my polo 6n for two years and never had a problem (sold it to a friend and they are still going good)

The ride on the jetta is not harsh and for under 200 quid I can't complain!

Air-ride will be coming eventually but for now I'm running cheap and low

If you are going low then I'd suggest adjustable droplinks would be the best way to go. You don't NEED them but they will be better.

i did look at the jom ones too as same sort of price as the fk streets i think i will risk it and go for the cheap and low look for now cant go wront for a set of streets and drop links for £193 delivered

I took some off last week. Went back to standards shock with eibach springs. They were ok theyre were just a bit bouncy when at high speed in my opinion so i never fully trusted them. I had them 15months. No major problems just a personal thing why i took them off. Still got mine in my boot if you want an even cheaper set to have a bash with.
They just need a jet wash n clean up

I put them on and I am we'll happy it's so much lower and still got loads left to go lower and to be honest I feel the ride is spot on to be fair even when my misses is in the car she normally moans like mad but she didn't even realise I did it until I told her lol

Where in Germany - It's a toss up between the Highsports and the APs for me but if there is somewhere that are doing them cheap then please share.

Many thanks

Chris

iv had fk street`s on my gti for about a year now. for the money you cant moan too much but they have non stop been rattling at the back since fitting which is slight annoying!

Ride is pretty harsh but thats what you have to expect tbh! For a cheap fix to get lows they are good but long term you are better off saving up abit more tbh as im looking to upgrade mine now

I have yes. They came supplied with the coilovers. Theyre a touch shorter than oem so if you wind them right down they dont cause any issues.
