So the GTI MK7 is released this summer in the UK, will this affect the price of the MK5/6 right away or will it take time. I want a MK5 as it is in my budget but if the MK6 is going to drop with the release of the MK7 I would wait and save for a MK6.

I can't see the value plummeting, especially not for the better models such as the GT GTD and GTI models,
Especially with the prices of new cars going up so much, £35k for a mk7 won't affect the value of a £6k MK5 IMO

Everyone knows they are coming. No shocks, just slow decline for mk5. Biggest issues is/was for VW clearing the marketing channel of older new mk6 since we all found out the mk7 was coming. The older the car the less the impact. GTI wise as the mk4 was a let down and the mk5 was seen as a return to form it's always commanded a jump in price over the mk4 that is more pronounced, relatively speaking to some budget conscious hot hatch fans that totally ignore the GTI mk4 as it's not of he same caliber as the mk5 GTI.

I think the MK5 has done it's depreciating. I doubt you'll see any dramatic changes in values.

Nothing major anyway.

I agree with everyone else's posts so far :happy2:
The Mk5 resurrected the GTI and has been a hard act to follow, in my opinion. I'm talking GTI here, not Golf R, when I say that the Mk6 is popularly known as the Mk5.5. Personally I don't much like the Mk6 but the Mk7 hopefully is more promising - We just don't know yet - The proof of the pudding is in the eating (which remionds me I'm feeling peck-ish).
