Title: Buying a 2008 GTI and insurer says its Pirelli but it is not?!
Post by: outlandish on January 20, 2013, 08:48:30 pm
Got a quote for the car I want to buy (2008 mk5 GTI) and gocompare brings up the car as Pirelli edition but it is definatly not, any ideas why? Is this just because it was registered in 2008?

No yellow stitching, no Pirelli badge, standard 17" alloys, defiantly not s Pirelli, will have to speak to my insurer about it!

It would be interesting to see what the DVLA have it down as. I thought they all use a common database.

I have had similar a couple of times with previous cars, just ask for a quote based on what the car is.  :happy2:

It's not unknown for DVLA to be wrong..

I had this with my Clio 172, when log book came through it said it was a cup, it very much wasn't.
My insurer was aware of the discrepancy and said I was ok as long as I had it insured as the correct car.
It would appear that it was possible the car was sold from new by an independent not a Renault dealer and they had registered it incorrectly, this might be a similar issue although when I went to get it changed the Renault dealer in Carlisle said it was a cup also, salesman was a total buffoon. Got sorted in the end though.

When I put my reg in it said it didn't exist. I'd take it with a pinch of salt until you have a look at the V5!

Also had the same with a previous car. Some online quotes thought my old mk4 pd150 was the 130.

Only if they were told it was a Pirelli will they record it as such and vice versa

As said check the v5. My 123d coupe was registered as a 320d that was exported in 2008

I always manually entered the car details rather than inputting the reg ..
