Title: Canbus gateway - Will mine work?
Post by: tomanni on January 23, 2013, 12:42:22 pm
Hi all,

Having scoured the search function for my answer, I have been driven to making a post with my question!

I have a 2007 Edition 30 with an RCD300 currently fitted. I want to fit an RCD510 but am aware there may be a battery drain issue due to the age of my car.

I went to VW yesterday to establish which Canbus gateway was originally supplied on my car and they told me it was '7NO 907 530 H'

Having looked through the posts where Eddie_NL is selling his Canbus gateways which solve the issue, I have seen that his part numbers are the same as mine, but with a 'C' at the end - going against the golden rule of newer than 'L' will work.

The usual replacements seem to have '1KO' at the start of the part number, whereas mine does not...

Can someone shed any light on the issue? Will I need a newer revision or have VW told me the newest part available?

Thanks :happy2:

Your gateway won't be 7N0 907 530H

it probably is 1K0 907 530H, K or L

if it is H and some K it will drain

I would suggest that you first find out the actual part number and go from there (examination or a Scan will sort that)

If you do need a new one, i can supply

Thanks for the quick reply Eddie

I will have a look tonight - if I need a new one coding, what info do I need to supply to you? I have no access to VCDS unfortunately...

This is not conclusive but my January 2007 ED30 came with 1K0907530K, and the software revision that suffers from drain.

I put a later gateway in as it's easy to do.

I also have a March 2007 SEAT Altea with the same version of the K gateway - you could always remove it and check what's stamped on it if there's no VCDS access.

While I was at Statllers yesterday I asked them to read my canbus gateway version and its on revision 'k'.

I've heard there's a way of updating the software on it if it's on such a revision - is this true?

My car is a sept 2007 on 57 plate with 08 build chassis , and I dropped a rcd510 in with no battery drain issues , ive been told from sometime in 07 cars started coming with can gateways that dont cause battery drain , so our 56 plate jetta wont be so lucky

sent using my own fingers

Sorry to drag up / tag on to an old thread - I think my car has the canbus gateway which is ok for use with an RNS without causing drain - it's the 'L' version that was talked about earlier (1K0907530L) - will this be ok with an RNS510 version H?
Cheers,
Dave

Iffy as in definitely end up with a battery drain problem?
Or may be ?

Thanks

Iffy as in there are three software versions of K, two have drain and one doesn't, best avoided. They are so cheap now for new ones.

Thanks Skard
Never simple and straight forward

Can you tell from this ?

CAN network gateway
Part #: 1K0907530K
Component: J533__Gateway
Coding: 3D0F034007000001 (hex)

Are the China ones any good ? New ones for less than £30. 7N0907530AM some are 7N0907530AN

No but if you scan again it'll have a software version, or you may have emitted it.
It should be appended onto this part Component: J533__Gateway e.g. Gateway H42 1620

The China ones are probably genuine, VW have a massive market there.

Sorry to pick up on an old thread... My gateway is Part No: 1K0 907 530 K Version: H04 0020. I know some 'K' versions are compatible for RCD510 and some not regarding battery drain. Anyone know if mine will be ok?

Many thanks!!
