My k1 is due it's 4th service and thinking I might save afew pennies and go to a local vw specialist rather than go to seat!
What do you guys think? Full seat service history isn't gonna make much, if any difference to my resale value is it?

It's a national thing, in UK we look for low mileage cars (nobody dare buy a car with over 100k) and everyone wants to see Full manufacturer history, personally speaking I would not be bothered if it was full dealer or specialist indy, only at re-sale time would I prefer to sell with full dealer history for the blinkered buyers out there.
We all know that most Indy's do a better job as good a job as the 17 y/o trainee at the dealer :happy2:

When I part-ex'd my GTI last month, the garage (non VW) didnt even ask if the history was VW or not, they were more interested with whether it had history.
If you plan to sell your car back to VW in future then a FVWSH is a must, otherwise they will give you peanuts :sad1:

Vw's performance varies as do independent garages . Depends on when you intend to sell your car . If you are keeping for another 2/3 years then go with an indy . If selling this year then get it done by the manufacturer .

^^^^ Exactly. Most folk on most forums do nothing other than moan about dealers, their prices and performance. Yet full dealer service history is a must!?!
Doesn't bother me to be honest.

When I service my car I just write in what I've done into the service section of the manual. I include the date and mileage.
I don't care if this is 'right or wrong'. All that matters is that I've done the work correctly and on time. It also saves me quite a few shekels which I can put towards a Mk6 R someday (maybe).

When i was less well endowed in the pound note department i used to work on my cars myself . My Father in Law was a one man band Prestige Car Specialist . Used to keep all the receipts for the items purchased and wrote a Service log as mentioned above and never had an issue with selling any of them . Most i sold a car for was £8k for a 3 series which i had had for 2 years
I think that modern technology does need to be checked via a computer etc so it is difficult to work on newer cars yourself
