Title: Facelift/Mk2 TT Wheels
Post by: rdfcpete on July 09, 2009, 10:53:57 pm
Guys,

Can you find these in a Mk5 fit?

Was in MK today, saw a TT with them on and it just inspired me to find out what they'd look like on mine. Very Turini' ish and tbh, I'm looking at the alternatives while I save for a set. I must admit, much of the facelift TT wheel range is quite tasty.

It looks like they're 18"s however I'm not sure and also, obviously the offset and availability is the more important side of things?

Thanks,
Pete.

I think the TT is built on the same base has the MK5 now and the hubs are now 5/112 but im njot sure what offset it is?  so would be worth checking.

I saw a set of those on eBay yesterday Pete!

They'll fit straight on, the tyres might be 235/40/18s but thats no biggy if you're leaving the height as it is.  I think the offset's ET47, so they'll fill the arches nicely.

^ ...Kidding?

Spot on for the reply though, you the man tbh.
Give me a shout if you find them/if they re-appear though bud. Great result that they'd fit straight on.

Won't 235's mean the MPG will drop a bit?

Thanks.

A 235/40/18 has an 8mm bigger diameter over a 225/40, 8mm is the difference between new tyres and knackered tyres so you shou;dn't notice any difference.

These are the ones, they are back up for sale.  They sold for £500 best offer 2 weeks ago!

Actually, some people list these as 8s or 9s, so you may need some spacers and longer bolts but these all round shouldnt cost more than £100 as the spacers are only going to be thin ones.

Its probably a good idea to do some research into these on the TT forums to find out the real offsets and widths.  Let me know and I have a calculator that'll work it our for you.

I've just looked on ETKA and the 2010 TT runs ET52 on 18" and 19" rims including the TTS and TTRS rims...hope that helps

Also the tires are either 245/40 on 18" and 255/35 on 19"

Tom + Darren, thanks for the research.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd be happy running that width of tyre in the long run, plus the price of tyres too.
Not really aware of the problems it could create or what else I'd have to account for really. 225 is wide enough really?

You can run a 225 no problem but the tires that come on the TT are either 245 or 255.

The Scirocco runs 235/40s, I can't see them being a problem on the MK5.  That said I'm going to be using 225/40s on my 8.5 and 9.5s!

Well, here's some.

Went for just £450 on the first listing too.

Would they fit?
I've completely forgotten the offset that the MK5 uses  :ashamed:

....I believe the Monza 18's are ET 51.

Aren't those TT wheels diamond-cut lacquered? (White worm risk).

Probably RR, but that's fine, as I'll just have them reconditioned in an anthracite or gunmetal grey if they were raped by white worm.

Yeah I had in my head the ET of between 45-54 but I'm still not sure what does, and doesn't fit.

Very cheap this time!

It might be worth sending him a message asking for the widths and offset on all wheels (as the back 2 might be wider), then we can work it out.

They will probably go for another very fair price.

The seller replied with the following when I asked him what the dimensions were:

"Hi the tyre size is as per the listing for all 4; they off set Im not sure; all I know is I have checked with Audi today and they tell me there is only one wheel size for a Mk2 TT. Im off work at mo so dont have access to the wheels to get numbers.hope this helps.thanks"

Not really any clearer as I don't think OEM MK2 TT wheels will fit MKV's without exceptions.

RR - Can I clarify, will ET 45-51 fit as a general rule?
I've had a wheel fly off on me before due to fitting with the wrong ET, so I want to be 200% sure I buy wheels that are the right fitting.

Be cool if I know the ET range I can look for  Cheers.

The wheel wont have came off because of the offset, that will be because of the shoulder on the wheel bolt. Most aftermarket wheels need different bolts.  :happy2:

45-51 offset is fine in most cases but you have to take into account the wheel width. if its 45 offset then you really will be asking for trouble with a wheel over 8.0 j wide. Other sizes will fit but with problems when you go fast round bends or lower the car.  :happy2:

Well, more than likely. I know they were completely the wrong offset too which was partly my fault although they were fitted by a professional nationwide tyre fitter, plus it was proven that the bolts weren't screwed anywhere near the correct torque setting which contributed. They'd all worked loose anyway inevitably. Was all sorted out pre-legal action. Was quite a fun experience coming to a halt on one front and a brake disc

Yeah I'll bear in mind the width, that's too true. I don't want to go wider than what I've got now ideally (17" Monza's).

Thanks RR
