The red strip? You need to buy a new full grill!

i thought the strip around the grilles were removable but i thought that might be the case as i haven't seen them for sale

Title: Re: MK5 GT TDI nice and simple
Post by: JoeDarKa on January 25, 2013, 08:23:51 pm
Yeah they are removable, i thought you meant you wanted a new red strip! You need a large flat headed screw driver or a trim tool and it eases off
Title: Re: MK5 GT TDI nice and simple
Post by: Andy on January 25, 2013, 08:24:46 pm
must admit i thought it was removeable as members on here have put different colour ones in

Its not too bad once the bits are off the car. Don't even bother with wing mirrors

Just had another browse at the car. Those wheels on a silver car had me drooling all over my laptop

That spoiler was proper jap ek9 type r on tilt brackets !!! Engine was seriously well put together
Unbelievably fast for a 1.6 e46 m3s like to try it on haha

The civic had a lot of blood sweat and tears new engine new paint job genuine bbs rs wheels
Full cage and widow ties even down to the engine more less every nut and bolt was anodised red

The golf has had no where near as much attention but it will slowly get there

so the new plans have arrived ive sent an email to U.D to try get this in show and shine so before U.D i have my work cut out

new interior in place slight fall back its out of a 3door so ill be sending my cards off to be trimmed in the centres to match the interior.

purchased these off del-boy such a top bloke very helpful and gave me a great deal!!!
so i bought his smoothed front bumper to so this will be going to the painters asap
also after bringing the wheels out 20mm my drivers side rear wheel scrubbed on the arch and took a slight bit of paint off which to say the least p****d me of but its about this long
of paint missing ----- haha
so ive booked it in at the body shop for front bumper re-spray and rear bumper and quatre if it does get acepted for U.D im going to have the wheels painted the same colour
as the interior and when arriving i will be winding the coilovers down more haha

Well spent 4 hours in the garage nice and cold dyed all the pillars the stuff worked really well
I bought mid night black but come out dark grey but I like it better lol
Also tried on a spare part using Simons satin black spray paint , painting the fabric
And it's actually worked better in colour but ill let you no when it's dried if it has gone hard
If not that is much for cost effective also painted rear boot trim satin black as it was white
All that's left now is roof lining sun visors and handles and she will be going back together

i dont think there's anything sounds good tho don't it haha

well update with work done got pics but so busy will update when i can so hold tight might just wait until its done to hold the suspense

pick up new wheels tomorrow as i sold mine today

there 18 x 9.5 rears and 8.5 fronts with a 3 inch dish haha

vortex splitter arrived and fitted to bumper looks nice front and rear bumper off to the painters

depending on how the wheels fit may depend on arch work so they may be getting rolled

also bought some bump stops as im staying static atm

interior i dyed with simply spray dye worse stuff on the market dryed horibly and said black and looked more grey so i tryed
simmons satin black paint and it worked a treat and only £2.50 a can compared to 10.00 a can for simply rubbish spray

all i left to do is the roof lining and sun visors and interior handles

ive started to carbon wrap the interior parts interior light and sunglasses holder going to wrap the centre console again as i noticed
a scratch in it so doing it again

i think thats about it atm lol

finding it very to find time im an ac engineer and work alot of hours and sometime 7 days a week as i have been for the last 3 weeks and will be for the next 3 as of next tuesday im away in brighton for 2 weeks so car will not be worked on only on weekends after work as im back then this will be ready for UD but as of yet i havent got it in ive sent 3 emails with spec and pics and also called but no joy yet :(

as for the interior dying here is how it went i purchased 2 cans of this stuff called simply spray £10.99 a can or ill call it simply gay it isnt very good
as pictures will show you it struggled even make the interior black and once dryed showed stains i never new i had so as i trial i tried simonz satin black
spray paint from a can £3.00 a can off ebay and it worked so much better and did not leave the interior parts crusty or hard as i thought it may

SIMPLY GAY

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faa287%2Fjoshyboy_010%2Ffabricpaint_zps9d33c61f.jpg&hash=71291dab533a60a9f102bb13aacef8f4751f2f2b)

simonz sating matt black aerosol works so much better and covers more

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faa287%2Fjoshyboy_010%2Fsimonz_zpsf041cf4f.jpg&hash=4a3ea7355b5ac2df0e84a582b682ffddfbf195b5)

heres the results

this is the out come of simply spray (gay)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faa287%2Fjoshyboy_010%2Fsh%2Atdye_zpscf8ce980.jpg&hash=42f944ef9b486c21e55e2f70ddd390082a310055)

as you can see its awful so plan b came along , the top one is simply spray (gay) bottom one is simonz aerosol look at the difference

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faa287%2Fjoshyboy_010%2Finterior44_zps2abe39c1.jpg&hash=7a4821243843c4162beb9c835658130e3ed09de7)

back from working away but had work the weekend so didnt get much done

collected bumpers from body shop wasnt happy with the rear so its being done again
front spliter fitted terrible so ive had to cut it about to get it to fit and goes back to painters tomorow
front bumper i had a night mare as i bought a genuine smoothed gti bumper didnt check if it would fit i just
geussed it would went to fit it and the middle of the bumper plastic was about an inch lower so i had to cut it all away to get it to fit
lucky the grille hides it all

roof lining is nearly done took 4 cans bit is a bit patchy still so will get it done this week once thats done interior can go back in

i carbon wrapped the centre console again as it had a scratch in it which annoyed me and also started steering wheel collum surround

thankyou mate means alot , alot of time and effort has gone into it especially with working 7 day week at leabing for work at 4.30 am get your violins out haha
its not a show winner yet but hopefully one day it will be the modifying will continue just when do you stop lol

and i got it to fit mate all that had to be done was the lip the clips in to the bumper was to long so you couldnt push the splitter back further
so all i done was cut it away and kept putting it on till it fit just used a stanley blade then neatend it up i slipped with the blade and cut into paint lolso had to have it painted again the clips were sh*t to didnt hold in very well so i fixed it with tiger seal now i dont think ill ever get it off haha

Looking very nice josh. Loving that black & white photo so much! Glad you shared the interior with us  :happy2: Front end is looking very mean now. Could you tell me what the bodyshop did to make the cheap splitter fit?

thankyou mate means alot , alot of time and effort has gone into it especially with working 7 day week at leabing for work at 4.30 am get your violins out haha
its not a show winner yet but hopefully one day it will be the modifying will continue just when do you stop lol

and i got it to fit mate all that had to be done was the lip the clips in to the bumper was to long so you couldnt push the splitter back further
so all i done was cut it away and kept putting it on till it fit just used a stanley blade then neatend it up i slipped with the blade and cut into paint lolso had to have it painted again the clips were sh*t to didnt hold in very well so i fixed it with tiger seal now i dont think ill ever get it off haha

Thats not too bad. Could you PM me the link to the splitter, Would you recommend it? Ive seen some that overhang loads on either side and just are way too big for the car !

Still waiting! wtf! Jus go in the car park and do your own show. Seems the way. Can't help but think some shows are about who you know rather than what you bring. Could be wrong but certainly some going on. Yours is show worthy pure and simple. So clean.

I got my wheels refurbed n baby blue'd, and there sitting in the garage. cba to drive around and get them scratched on day 1, especially as the golf is a daily drive atm.

That's the one I there is a lip that run s across the top of the splitter that slots into your
Bumper the lip is to wide so all u do is get a Stanley knife and cut it away until it fits

Mate firstly your car is looking ace! But more than anything I absolutely love your rims , I know they're reps, but still look the mutts..... Can I ask where you got them, and if you don't mind sharing, how much they set you back??

Also, is the GTI rear end just a straight swap?

Good work tho mate, it's coming on really well!!  :happy2:

to leave it in the snow so i left the poor old girl in the car park at ud did get a few comments when i was getting out of it liek why an earther isnt that on display lol my bad

but after seeing the example set at ud i felt the car was no where near on the level they were at

They are very nice wheels. Mine are for sale. There not gold just all silver. Mine are 5x112 and 5x100. (Sorry Josh)

Car looks sexy. Wish I went to UD to see it man!  I know how you feel, looking towards the likes of Del Boy & Al Langford!

Mine are 5x112 and 5x100.

Maybe it's late and I'm being simple but how are they both 100 & 112? Do you use hub adapters? Is that a common thing with mk5's?
