On Film4 @ 11.05pm tonight Friday.

Starring Rhy Ifans  :notworthy: - Biopic of Howard Marks.

This is my era. My daughter recently bought me his autobiography for some reason.

Yes but Rhys Ifans is usually excellent IMO.

I'd read the book first If I were you Robin, If you've not read it already. It's a brilliant read. I was dissapointed with the film as it misses out so much. They should have made  it in 2 parts. The man is a legend!

I've now started reading the book  :happy2: and it's clear that the book is going to be 'better' than the film but it has started me reading it at last! A great follow-on read after Keith Richards excellent book.

The film was good but really because of the cast - Rhys Ifans was perfect. Although made in 2010 the film really felt as if it had been made back in the day. It brought back a lot of memories of that culture - What was going on simply never felt in the least bit criminal and the movie got that across too. What was brilliant was how Rhys captured the whole humour of the culture - So much better than alcohol. The scene started to get very heavy after that era though - No longer for me but my life has been enriched by it.

Oh how times are different now - This trailer wouldn't be allowed, especially in the good old U S of A!...........
