So its that time again where my tyres are getting low on tread... Im always stuck with what to try..
I had PS2 originally, i got a lot of wheel hop with them
currently Goodyear F1 Assy i get a lot of wheel spin!
Has anyone tried the Continental ContiSportContact 5, My work colleague has an earlier version of these and they seem very good when im sat as a passenger. hes always swerving and cutting around the road (scary ride)
As always, open to opinions.
-
F1 v2 mate... :happy2:
102 quid each online
-
Iv lost the confidence in them, they have lasted around a year, 5k-ish, the wheel spin, i guess, has just worn them so quickly, also not sure how i feel about them cornering, understeer seems more than before, maybe..?
-
The new ones are great mate.... fronts have lasted 20k+ on mine (1 year 1 month) grip is superb.
-
20k wow,, motorway im guessing!
pinch of salt and that...

A lot of M-W yes but also a lot of hard driving... :driver:
-
PS2 are soft.... they wont last long either. BUT longevity isnt really an issue here if you are only doing 5000miles a year
-
As2's rock.
-
Well I suspect they lasted that long because all they do is Spin. And that's just trying to move quick not even Hard down!
-
If you are spinning them they might be something wrong.... plenty of folk run them and rate the highly for grip.
-
So many factors... At low temps they aren't going to be great on traction, like any summer tyre your trying to put 300lb ft+ and 260bhp+ through FWD... Most tyres pretty crap at 3mm or less too... Just have to drive accordingly to conditions and tread of tyre remaining. I honestly think they are some of best tyres I've ever had.
-
They have been the same since day 1. So I have been though a summer and they were Just the same.
It probably is just down to power but the ps2s didn't spin so much. Instead they caused hop (traction then losing then gaining etc)
Mayb I'll give them a shot...
-
Just realised your k04 stage 2+ what's that 340bhp+ through those poor fronts... There are a lot stickier tyre you can buy suitable for the road but mostly track day use, I forget the brand but I'm sure someone will chime in will details or grab a quick search, there was some posts not too long ago.
Edit toyo r1r or others

Or perhaps consider an LSD
-
Steves got an LSD.
Try some Yokohama ad08s Steve. Worry a shot if your struggling with normal road tyres
-
As your tyres get close to the wear limit, they will always be less grippy.
Cast your mind back to when they were new, I bet they were fine then
Another vote for the Assy 2's here :happy2:
-
nope, new was much the same (as above)

I'm a bit stuck too. I currently have Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's all round. They have always seemed ok to me, great at motorway speeds in the wet, tend to wheelspin quite a bit when pulling away enthusiastically though :-)
The Rears are at 3.5-4mm so will need changing quite soon, the Fronts are at 5-6mm so probably fine for another 3-4 months. On Black Circles the Pirellis are £124 each and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 2 are £126.
I know the Goodyears seem to be rated very highly on here, each thread about tyres seems to recommend them, will they be a lot better than the Pirellis? Much difference in life span? Seems worth a go at the price difference. Seen them for £108 on camskill with a free £10 fuel voucher, how would I go about getting these fitted as opposed to using black circles?
Thank you for your help!
-
Wow, Goodyear hide that free fuel promotion well!
for anyone thats interested heres the information with a list of participating dealers. Valid until 31st March 2013

take them down your local tyre garage (not kiwk fit) and get them fitted cash in hand
-
I'll be going for Assy 2's when my front's finally need changing. Still got 4-5mm though.

Great, Thanks for your help

Any of you guys using Assy2 riding on FSDs?
I am having real problems on my Mkv GTi - it squirms all over the road and tramlines, not sure if it is to be expected or whether I have a problem.
