Title: Fuel filters what is standard 2006
Post by: olufsen on January 29, 2013, 10:31:11 am
I'm looking at doing a DIY fuel filter change, jack up, passenger side.

Just wondering what make the standard one is, Euro car parts have these

Anything to watch out for whilst doing this?  I'll have very little fuel in...

I had my local garage do it (cost around £25) as I didnt want petrol all over my driveway.

I bought the part from VW which was around £25 IIRC

It is drivers side  :happy2:

Cheers, probably right regarding fuel; just like to get my hands in, was thinking of doing cam follower too... but again fuel related, hmm, might be worth letting the garage do the lot... defeated before I start. :lol

Give it a go.

What's the worst that could happen?

It is really easy to change.

Get a basin under the filter and wear some latex gloves if you are worried about fuel spillage.

Just make sure you note what pipes go where before you remove them so you get them back in the correct way round.

Copied this from another site - can't remember where so credit to the Author is not possible (apologies)

1. Jack the rear of the car up and support it on axle stands ensuring the front wheels are chocked

2.Remove the fuel pump fuse.

3.Start the engine and if it wont start you have successfully depressurised the system. If it does start, let it run until it has stopped.

4.The fuel filter is situated underneath the fuel tank at the rear of the car (its on the back of the tank)

5. Remove the screw from the retaining clamp

6. You need to remove the pipes, noting first the direction of the arrow on the fuel filter. This can be done by pressing the tabs on the connections together and popping the connections off, or alternatively levering a large screwdriver underneath the lip of the connections to make them 'pop' off. Recommend you get a large rag to catch the fuel that spills out - there will still be a little pressure in the pipes so just be careful and dont be alarmed if you get fuel coming out the pipes for a few seconds.

7. Fit the new filter into position, and 'click' the pipes back onto the filter ensuring that you have put it with the arrow facing the same way as the old filter.

8. Reinstall the fuel pump fuse then with the drivers side door open turn the ignition on and off 3 times to prime the filter and then start the engine. It may take a few seconds to start as the lines repressurise. Let it run for a few minutes while you check the connections on the fuel filter to ensure there are no leaks

9. Lower the car and youre done!

Note:- take care not to damage the connection pipe ends as there not sold separately also keep in mind what type of light your using !!!!!!!
