Title: My Anthracite wheels - not 'blue'
Post by: Hedge on July 11, 2009, 01:35:15 pm
Crawled out my pit far too early for a Saturday and went off to sort my wheels out. I used a company that a friend of mine had used previously and I was already impressed with the workmanship.

Unlike others and their blue fetish I had decided that powder coated Anthracite was the way forward.

For those of you interested the company was My Alloys in Basingstoke. http://www.myalloys.co.uk/
A have to say they were a pleasure to deal with and you could tell by the care and attention to detail when my tyres were swapped how professional they are. :happy2:

mate i do like you, and your car and i am fully aware that you are able to kill me so i will choose my words carefully

constructively i would say thats its a bit too bland now for me on the side view....almost too much of one colour, like a wall of grey

the wheels are a nice colour and do look well done but for me, personally, dont like it  :sad1:

maybe if they were bigger? and silver/black?

..oh and anywhere but my face, i'm too pretty

I like it  :happy2:

But I am biased  :rolleye:

What I found helps get over the "wall of blandness" that the small fruit man talks of is a bit of a drop

The whole raison d'etre for my car is to not stand out.

I had a Race Blue Mk2 Octavia with Evoms, Full Milltek, Revo stage 2 and that obviously drew enough attention for someone else to want to own it. :ashamed: So I now own the Golf.

If it keeps me off some thieving scrotes radar yet still allows me to enjoy it to the full then I'm all for it.

And SteveP I think I know why you approve.

VC, there is no need to fear me.

I love it Hedge, the sleeper look really suits that colour, and if in the future you felt like it needed livening up then just a splash of colour on something like the calipers or the stripe on the front is easily done. Its a thumbs up from me.

Oh and i can give you VC's address big fella, just say the word.

I think the sounds need improving next.

Will wait and see how Cocopops gets on with his Blaupunkt amp. Then probably a speaker change as well. :happy2:

I got re-instated :happy2:

The pics look good,  in your opinion is it the same or slighly darker than the steel grey of the car. My alloys badly need refurbed and my local place give you old set to drive round in while yours get done. I am tempted. after i get those blinds mind

Hedge, if you don't want to stand out, how about Vulcan camouflage? You've already got the grey base colour

Greenlight will insure you like-for-like with ALL your mods and without bending you over a barrel.

Hmm, if the price is low enough I might get those powdercoat peeps in Basingstoke (closer than Wolverhampton) to make my Monza 17's black and then immediately sell them - They'd be more attractive to someone I reckon.

Now Vuclan colours would be cool. As for Greenlight I spoke to them and Brentacre both of which were more expensive than my Chris Knott renewal which was £110 more than I was quoted by Adrian Flux.

So in the end Chris Knott price matched AF and nothing changed.

^^^ Almost the same as me, AF where cheaper than my Chris Knott renewal but they wouldn't match it so I am now with AF.

Hedge - All you'd have to do is apply some random vinyl patches in the appropriate green over your grey et voila! Cammo a la Vulcan!!
