My Gti had a few marks on the centre console so decided to wrap it in the new Carbon Fibre 4D Wrap. Not sure if im going to remove the bit around the stereo yet as it might need a break in colour somewhere.
Only took me about 2 hours to remove all parts, Warp , and fit back together. Looks even better in real life, pics dont really do it justice, but here goes....

Are you going to do the alu strips?..........

^ I did all of mine - Dashboard alu strips and door strips.

I admire your patience but too much carbon wrap can look tacky in my opinion. It looks too uniform and as much as it may sound crazy I like to see a few small weave defects which you can only achieve with proper carbon.
-
Looks good! My top vent and radio surrounds were a pain to do!

I think im gonna leave the Alu strips, quite like the silver in the cabin.......Like some one said earlier, too much can look tacky, so think im gonna leave it for now.

....I thought I would post my link just in case it helped if you had decided to do the alu strips.
The only carbon vinyl I've got on mine are the alu strips, surround of the head unit only and the backs of my Recaro's because I don't like their original high gloss black. As 3D is more satin finish than gloss, it doesn't look too much IMO :happy2:

Looks really good. I like the ashtray and gear surround the best. Might just have a go at this.

Yeah as long as you take it nice and slow its quite easy and the end result looks real nice :happy2:

Wrapped my dash in 3m DiNoc carbon wrap yesterday.

^^^^
That looks very nice in isolation and nice photos too :happy2:
Do you have any pics taken from further back to show it more in context?

Here's one from a bit farther back

^^^^ Looks good. I reckon it might look OTT if you had carbon elswhere on the dashboard as well - But just my personal opinion.
Looks like your steering wheel carbon wraps are 3D and in a perfect world should match your new 4D clocks wrap.
I would do your steering wheel wraps in this \\\\\\ weave direction so it further matches.
I think that the wheel and clocks carbonising look very well together :happy2:

Its all done with the same stuff, 3d di noc.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-Di-Noc-Carbon-Fibre-Vinyl-Wrap-30x20cm-CA-421-A4-/250636657736?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a5b1be448
I tried some 4d but sent it back as it was just printed vinyl. Maybe I bought the worng stuff, but I like the textured 3m product.
And no, there's no more wrap going inside the car.
I only got the stuff originally to the forks on my mountain bike and the back of my iphone.
Its durable stuff

Did you take the clocks out? Or did you do it whilst they were in the car?
-
Carefully does it if you remove your clocks.... I did last weekend now I have a nice orange airbag fault light on my dash... :rolleye:
-
Took the dash out.
Unclip the trim piece from the bottom of the dash with the 'leather' bit that hides the adjustable reach on the steering column. It just pulls out, just a bit of gentle tugging.
Undo the 2 torx bolts holding the dash assy to the bulkhead.
The whole cluster then just pulls out from a multiplug fastened behind. No loose wires etc to worry about.
Then unclip the sections of the dash section by section. Eventually you end up with the instruments, an intermediate section of the dash with the glasses and then the front part of the housing.
Apply the wrap, cut out the clock apertures from the back with a pristine craft knife and then trim very carefully from the front to neaten up. Green turn indictators I did from the front, a bit delicate.
Then reassemble, being careful to ensure glasses are exactly in place on their rubber mounts.
Patience and thinking are key for your first go, once sussed its easy!
NB. I made sure I had a cloth to catch the two torx bolts in case they fell when removing/installing. A magnetic pickup helps recovery of fallen bolts. Be careful about touching the glass - fingerprints on the inside are impossible to clean without disassembly. I used glass cleaner and latex gloves to reassemble the glass. Its not rocket science, I did it!
I have to say, it looks good in real life.
Re the above post, make sure ignition is off maybe.
-
Top job if you cut it all out yourself!
I managed to find a ready-cut carbon insert on flea-bay and that was tricky enough to fit....mabey because I had to feed the insert in through one of the dial apertures as the low-line instruments only split into two pieces.
Anyway, I made sure my ignition was off, I guess I'm just unlucky with electrics :rolleye:

The best part is, after a short run out in the car, its knocked nearly a second of its 0-60 time, does 10mpg more and reduced my insurance premium by £200 per year.
