Just a quick question regarding the factory fitted cd changer fitted in the armrest,I was wandering if this would work with my new Alpine double din headunit(Alpine INE-W928R) which I will be ordering from a member on this very forum :happy2:,would a lead of some sort be required to get it to work or should I just forget it and leave it disconected?

if you already have the cd changer in place with vw wiring then plug it in and try it. from memory none of th aftermarket head units work well with oe equipment

Thank's,will do when it arrive's as I was asking whether any lead's would need to be purchased beforehand before the install.

Will be interested to hear how this goes Sanj as Luis will be fitting the same head unit to mine to replace the RNS510 I have and I was wondering about the 6 change CD unit I have in the arm rest too. If it don't work I was wondering if VW do a cubby hole type insert to replace the CD changer and to give some storage space. If so it may be a good place to run the iPod wire too.
Let me know how it goes mate :happy2:
Cheers Paul

Hi,mine should be fitted this time next weekend so i'll let you know how it goe's on,the person fitting mine(ex VW master technician) coded every single retrofit into my car so if he can't do it nobody can!I'd love to keep the changer as it look's perfect where it is!

i changed the cd player in the arm rest for the i pod shelf-took the orig wire out of the bottom and fed the alpine lead in

I have an aftermarket pioneer unit in my gti. Didn't even bother looking to see if it would be compatible with my
CD changer as I wasn't bothered.
But I do know that there is no power source going to the cd changer anymore so can't insert or eject any cd's

Thanks guy's
There seems to be a couple of options if the CD changer doesn't work. I will await to see how you get on Sanj, hoperfully you can keep the CD changer working and where it is as it does look good :happy2:

Ooooh, just seen this. As far I as I am aware, the CD changer will only work with VW units. Then again, if there is a will there is a way and I am sure it could be figured out. If I get a chance, I will look into this and let you know.
