Title: MFSW Retro Fit
Post by: TheBIGJAYY on February 04, 2013, 02:19:49 pm
Hey Guys,

i have bought a MFSW and just got me an airbag sorted out for it.

all i need now it to find someone to remove my old one, fit it and code it up to the highline clocks.

i know Eddie on here can do it but he is a fair drive from where i live (chorley, northwest england)

so im basically trying to find someone locally to me who is able to fit this and code it up for me...

any help in this case would be much appreciated!

cheers,

Josh

Won't you need the steering controller for the MFSW? I needed it when fit mine. Can also code for you if needed, I'm in Bradford.

Ideally you will need a ch steering control module.
It does depend on what slip ring is fitted as there are two types.

Arent CHs only really required if you are having a mk6 wheel?

you can use a ch controller with a mk5 wheel, you would also need to upgrade to a mk6 cruise stalk too

You'll also need a new steering wheel loom for multifunction bud

ahhh confusing!! joe that would be brill! i work in aspull so im only round the corner from you!  :happy2:

yeah i think eddie mentioned i need a ch control module...

basically i have a mk5 1.9tdi, currently have the 4spoke steering wheel...

i upgraded my clocks to the later version of the highline clocks and got the MFSW with the later version of the multi function buttons...iv just bought an airbag and cover from a gent on here...

i already have the cruise control stalk fitted from standard...will i need to change that also as it currently works with the highline clocks..?

You need 1K0 971 584 C which is the airbag loom and allows the buttons to work. Your existing loom won't work with the wheel.

You don't need the CH module, older ones will work. There is a list on the Ross Tech Wiki of what modules work with what sliprings.

Hopefully the controller you have may work but will only know when it gets scanned! You can get the loom from vw themselves or ebay as you said. Cant remember where mine was from! We can fit it this weekend but that doesnt give you lots of time to get the loom. Let us know!

It needs a Highend version, which is not fitted at the minute

Wondered when you'd click!

If I knew I could've scanned your car bud so you'd know what module you have now (to then figure out what slip ring you have)

BC suggests a type 2, so try get a type 2 highend other than AQ as some software versions of this have problems with cruise.

Stop worrying

You have a BG controller ordered which is for mfsw
You have a C version slip ring from me
You only need a mfsw loom and airbag cover if you didn't buy an airbag

ok had a bit of a headache with this over the weekend did me and joe!!

found i did actually need the multi function airbag loom...

also the slip ring we fitted doesnt seem to be working correctly, if couldnt register when my steering wheel was turning, we checked this through VCDS and the angle of the steering wheel didnt change when we where turning the wheel to full lock and back.

due to this it had caused my steering assist to fail and for some reason, turned my ESP off. so i had steering assist warning light and ESP warning light on my dash

put the old CH controller on the error was still present, swapped the slipring back over to the old one again and after the left lock, right lock trick the errors went and my steering was back as normal!

has any1 experienced this before?

based on our findings as far as i can see the slipring is faulty and i will be in need of a new one!

basic settings need to be performed in most cases, when the controller is changed

Slip ring doesn't cause the steering fault, it allows communication with the steering wheel

The G85 sensor has photosensors that read the different size plastic tabs on the back of the slip ring as the wheel is turned

If the mfsw works and the horn then that would indicate that the slip ring is ok

I would try basic settings

Hey THEBIGJAYY

H hope you don't mind me asking I see you ordered a controller from a seller in Germany on Ebay. Would you mind if i ask how the sale went?
I need a controller and that looks like my only option.

Thanks
