Title: Stupid mistake fitting led bulb
Post by: rf860 on February 05, 2013, 09:43:08 pm
Been a total idiot and somehow blown the interior lights trying to fit an LED bulb in the boot area. Had a look in the fusebox at the side of the dash and i can't see any 'burnt' fuses. Any ideas what i've done?

Really miss having lights inside the car lol.

Should be a 7.5amp fuse (about 4th row from top)

Sounds like you've shorted it.  Why not change the fuse anyway? Have you tried swapping back to the OEM bulbs? Also the LED's will only work one way round.

It's a 7.5 amp fuse in the drivers side Fuse Box.  IIRC it's all in the manual, I can't remember which position.  :happy2:

EDIT: just looked on my-GTI.com. Position 15 in drivers door fuse box (scan down)..

Very helpful as always! I've put the original bulb back i now to prevent further problems lol. I had a look at that exact fuse as that's the one i suspected that would be blown but it look fine. I'll get down to halfords tomorrow and buy one just to be safe.

I had the same problem, the boot bulb is the only one I can't change to LED, and I have tried quite a few.

I put in an LED in mine but then replaced it with a unit that contains 18 SMD's, much better output for the boot area. Was about £15 delivered on ebay

It's a replacement light unit with integrated LED board, not a bulb

^^^^ is this the one you have, link below? I have full interior LED's and they're great, the only one which could do with being a wee bit brighter is the boot light.  :happy2:

I'm sure this is Matt's listing and the one he supplies in his kit:
