Title: R-tech remap and results
Post by: Magnet on February 09, 2013, 05:17:49 pm
I have just returned from R-Tech and thought it useful to describe my experience.  Many will already know of the service and products offered so based on this info I booked my car in.  Approximately 2 1/2 hours later my car (a 2006 mk5 GTi DSG) has been transformed.

Those that know how Nick operates will appreciate that it's all about the way the car drives and not necessarily the head line bhp figures.  After a check of the car and more importantly the DV, the leaking revision D item was replaced with a revision G valve so that the base line tune of he car could be determined. The bhp and torque figures were bang on for a stock car so then it was time for Nick to work his binary matrix style magic.

A few mouse clicks here and there, the sound of an engine working hard and a few DSG ""whumps" later all was good.  Bearing in mind that this is an absolutely stock car I was delighted with the figures - 251bhp and 289 ft/lbs.

Then I got to drive it - gone is the hesitation waiting for the engine to pick up, now there is a strong pull from very low rpm and a sustained shove all the way through the rev range. The traction control was working very hard. In fact I turned it off.

On a day like today breaking traction was easy but it can be induced even in higher gears by just putting your foot down such is the torque available.

So in summary for the performance gained, the service offered and the financial outlay it's a no brainer.

Another satisfied customer.

I hear really good things constantly about R-Tech and their custom maps. I wish I was closer. As I live near Plymouth, it's gonna cost A LOT just to get there...

Another happy R-Tech customer - welcome to the club  :happy2:

Great figures, even though the tiv mapping isn't about headline figures, those are still very good!

@Alexmccabe - even with around £100 fuel for the round trip, it still works out a lot cheaper than paying for a big brand remap on your doorstep. You would enjoy the drive home after  :driver:

Haha, you're probably right. A remap is a long way off though. Gotta get some visual stuff up to scratch first.

Slightly related note, do remaps give you better MPG?

I'm lucky, I live just down the road. I went with my trusty 140 TDI just before Christmas and Nick completely transformed my car.
I wouldn't of even known he was there though if it wasn't for this Fourm. For anybody expecting a big fancy garage though, don't. Nick has everything he needs and nothing more.
