Filled up with diesel last Sunday, have covered 94 miles so far and range still says 502 miles remaining and thats with all B roads driving (30/40/60mph), my 1st diesel car and loving the economy thus far :happy2:
It's also pretty quick when you want it to be, 0-60mph is 6.2s, although mid range is where its very strong.
One of the lads at the golf club has a 330D Manual (Saloon) and he had his remapped by Celtic Tuning in St Austell and its putting out nearly 300bhp with 440lb/ft torque :signLOL:
-
Dont read to much into the trip reading guys they can be somewhat misleading...
-
Will be doing a 950 mile round trip next week (St Ives/Cornwall to Manchester to Hunstanton/Norfolk to St Ives/Cornwall) so will see what mileage I get then :happy2:
-
bet she's a dream on the old motor way mate, thats what they are built for! let us know as Ive been toying with the idea of a 330D myself! :happy2:
-
ONly been on B roads and 1 A road thus far, looking forward to see how she muches the miles, in 7 weeks the car is taking me and my 3 best mates from St Ives to Solden (Austria) which is a 2021 mile round trip, looking forward to seeing how she goes on the Autobahn although top speed will be limited to below 110 as will have 4 snowboards on the roof :signLOL: (The Snowboard roof rack is TUV tested to 125mph apparently but dont fancy that really!)

My 123d has the same gearbox i believe. They are not built for motorways, you wont see much over 40mpg to be honest. Mines currently sitting at 39mpg average after having over half a tank of mixed driving through it. Although im hoping to get nearer 45mpg once the weather warms up a bit and im doing regular motorway commutes.
If you wanted economy, the 330d was not the right car.

How do you figure? :stupid:
38.0mpg is economic as fair as im concerned & 45 definately is...

Different engine entirely though. 2.0 vs 3.0, twin turbo vs single. I had a loan of an old 530d and managed to return 51mpg indicated, 49 actual, on a 400 mile round trip (mostly sitting between 70-80). I'd imagine a newer 330d to be at least as good.

For a petrol, perhaps. My Golf R does ~40mpg if I'm sensible on the motorway, and will do ~34mpg on the commute. I'd expect a diesel to be a good 10mpg ahead of a similarly aged petrol in all areas.

There you go :happy2:

I meant the 38mpg bit :P

The 330D LCI 242bhp is more efficient than the earlier 330D 231bhp, official figures (not to be believed!) are below.
Urban 37.7
Combined 47.9
Extra Urban 56.5
Bottom line is if I am getting 38.7mpg (which fuel comp tells me) just driving round towns and B roads, I would expect at least another 5-6mpg when at motorway speeds.
According to BM forums average seems to be around 45mpg on motorway runs (@ indicated 80mph), for me that is very economical :happy2:, the best I saw on the edition 30 for the last 4 months was 29mpg on a motorway run and 24-25mpg on the B roads
I did not buy the car purely for economy , if I did that I would have bought a 318D, I wanted a car that was quick AND economical along with more room for my sporting gear (had 3 sets of Golf clubs in it this week without seats down).
The car does exactly what I needed and I am happy with it.
Not sure about same gearbox as 123D, yours is a 4 cylinder mine a 6 cylinder, not sure of gearboxes are identical?, I know at an indicated 80mph its doing about 1850rpm and showing 46.2mpg (It did on the 45 mile drive back down the A30) which was 2/3rds dual carriageway and 1/3rd single A road.
If it "Only" does 40mpg average on the run I will be VERY happy anyway, diesel is the same price as Shell V power unleaded so im saving on fuel (and car tax by £80yr and insurance by £300yr) :signLOL:

I dont think I drive as quick as you then as my 330D is averaging 38.7 from town and B roads, your 123D must be quite thirsty with a heavy foot :signLOL:
-
Im just pootling around. :sad1:
I could understand if i was actually driving it like a hot hatch. :signLOL:
Official figures for my car are similar to your 330d quoted figures. But not many seem to get anywhere near them.
I read that some people complain of clutch judder in the 1 series, and that there is a revised clutch assembly for everything from the 116d up to the 120d, however, due to the 123d using the 330d gearbox there was not one available.

Yes, same here. But i was surprised the motorway economy wasnt as good as i thought.

Will see what it does next week on the 950 mile jaunt, was speaking to a guy on the phone yesterday who went to to Alps in his car with his family (wife and 3 kids) he had a 2010 60 plate 330D M Sport Touring and he said with all the luggage and 5 sets of skis in his roof box he still averaged 41mpg at mostly 80-85mph (indicated) autoroute speeds :surprised:
Would be nice to get near that with 4 lads + luggage and 4 snowboards on the rooofrack :signLOL:
Your 123D should be doing quite a bit more on mpg than my 330D, just looked up a 10 plate 123D and economy shows 45mpg urban, 55mpg combined and 64 extra urban?
-
Yep, but they don't get anywhere near that. Loads of threads about the sh*t consumption on all the 1ers on the babybmw forum. Lucky to get anywhere near those figures with a 116d. :)
Would be awesome to get 41mpg with that much luggage and a roof rack though.

A 330d has the best of both worlds for me... A 3.0 engine with some serious grunt and good fuel economy
38mpg is good as far as I'm concerned! :P

Mee too, im sure it will be in the early to mid 40's on a run, done 150 miles on trip now and says 436 miles now as I was pootling about from town to town picking up some stuff and arranging some new tyres for the rear for just prior to my trip.
Cheapest price I found for Michelin Primacy ZP Runflats 255/40/17 94W/Y) from Blackcircles and tyreshopper (Fitted prices) were £206 each, found a local place and arranged a deal at £195 fitted per tyre (Same Tyres) including Nitrogen filling :happy2: :happy2:

Enough of this chit chat about MPG, you can't have a member's ride thread without photos, so come on, get to it! :popcornsoda:
-
Will get a few pics next week when I have some spare time and inclination to upload them to photobox :signLOL:

I loved nearly everything about my 320d tourer. Build quality was brilliant and the mpg was good just wish i had the extra cash for an LCI 330d, nice choice :happy2:
-
Well after covering 1017 miles in the last 4 days (Cornwall to Norfolk to Manchester to Cornwall) I can confirm the following of the 330D LCI Touring
It eats the miles and is very comfy (Only a stiff right knee after 7 hours driving), although the Bridgestone RFT tyres are quite noisy (The rears are being replaced with Michelin Primacy HP ZP in 4 weeks time Which are 4DB quieter).
Its big enough to carry me and my best mates Family around (3 adults, 2 kids, although the tallest of the 4 of them is 5'7").
Its pretty quick accelerating from 50-80 in 6th.
It averaged 44.7mpg (70% Motorways 30% A roads) and covered 559.7 miles before "0" range indicated, and on way back it averaged 41.6mpg (95% motorway and 5% A roads) Roofrack on with 2 snowboards, covered 512 miles with 47 miles range left (indicated), 1000 miles and nearly 2 tankfulls, well happy with that :happy2:
The roofrack (Thule Square Bars) and snowboard holder (Thule Xtender 739 with 2 snowboards attached) was not overly noisy although did notice the car developed an annoying whistle at motorway speeds (Think its from one of the front wipers?, it was noticed without roofrack) and only dropped economy by 3mpg. Cruising at a Sat Nav indicated 75mph (empty car no roofrack) gave economy of 47.8mpg.
Keep the traction control switched on especcially on wet roads as its very tail happy with all the torque
The Ipod lead (Iphone) was a godsend for some decent music for the 17 hours spent in the car (until one of my mates kids insisted on putting One Direction on using her mums Iphone) :ashamed: NEVER AGAIN!
Saw 3 Edition 30's on my travels (1 Red 56 plate, 1 Black 57 plate and 1 Silver 07 plate) Saw 1 Pirelli (58 plate) Silver and a Golf R (Blue).
Prety sure it will cover the 2000 miles round trip to Austria with 4 onboard (and 4 Snowboards on roofrack) very easily and still get approx 40mpg, we did a test fit of luggage bags in the boot and 2 big hard bags and 2 medium sized soft bags fitted easily with load cover in place, only 4 boot bags and 4 small rucksacks to add to that so will have some room left to pick up some supplies in Calais (Beer Vodka Food), can put luggage net up and stack to roof, as long as I have a 12" gap in midddle to see behind me its no issue :happy2:
-
Just test fitting the roofbox for the trip to Austria in 3 weeks, picked up the roofbox this morning to allow us some room in the boot which we can fill with beer and wine on return trip :happy2:
Thule Atlantis 780 (480 Litre capacity), 196cm x 78cm x 44cm should swallow 4 Snowboards, 4 Pairs of boots and a couple of travel bags easily enough :signLOL:
