I currently have a RCD500 in my jetta, the one where i have 6cd integrated into my head unit. I want my ipod to run through it, i understand i will loose my cd function but is ipod control available? will the ipod charge up?
Can someone point me in the direction of the cable i need?
Its my birthday today and i got an ipod :jumpmove:

You could do the armrest mod but a cheaper alternative is the genuine "wire in the glovebox" iPod kit - 1K0 000 504 or something like that. They're available new for about £50-150 on eBay.
You won't lose the built in 6CD function, you'll just need to hit CD twice to select the other device.
The genuine one is a bit crap (its essentially a Dension Ice>link Plus), it crashes occasionally and doesn't show track names, but it does the job for me.

when i got my ipod shelve cost me £60 of e bay but they don't come on thier often

Tom, im not quite sure by what your saying when you say i can retain the use of my cd player as i thought that the ipod lead plugs in to where the cd changer plugs in? as mine is a built in cd changer i presume this port is taken up?
Something like this would do the job?

Your changer is built into the stereo so it doesn't use the plug :happy2: Its free for your iPod kit.
As for the kit you've linked, it won't fit your MK5 stereo (its designed for MK4 headunits) but my girlfriend has that kit in her Ka and its never crashed in the 18 months we've had it. I also used one of those on my VDO sat nav unit for a year with no trouble.
It still doesn't allow you to display track names but that problem lies with your headunit.
This is the correct Connects2 kit for you - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iPOD-Interface-OEM-Adaptor-Kit-VW-Passat-Golf-MK5_W0QQitemZ250464166955QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP?hash=item3a50d3e42b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A2122%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 It may still be worth searching the model number on Google for the best deal, our ones were bought from ICE websites as eBay was too expensive.
