Title: Mk5 multifunction steering wheel
Post by: Robsta on February 11, 2013, 08:22:44 pm
 :driver:
Hi Guys
I have recently bought a mk5 gt tdi. Gti replica.
Problem is the steering wheel horn does not work, I have tested horn connections on the back of my airbag & horn connections are ok?
The wheel is a flappy paddle multi function.
Do I need parts?

Either you need steering wheel controller or airbag wiring harness for MFSW.

Basically you have got one and not the other so your horn doesnt work. Need to deduce this first before buying parts.

Check vagcom for coding errors too!! Job was only half done by the sounds of it by last owner. Do the MFSW buttons or paddles work?

Non of the buttons work, where do I start do I need to find someone with a vagcom check unit?
I may try & find a normal gti wheel without multi function if its going to be a loads of hassle!
If I do need more parts will they need to be coded in?
Thanx for the advice.

Ideally if you can borrow a vagcom check your steering controller part number 1k0 953 549 ___ and cross check it here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions)

If its not a highline then to fix the horn and get your buttons etc working then get a highline steering controller from EddieNL on here.

If its a highline, then your airbag wiring is most likely the problem and needs MFSW wiring which I can help with supplying.

So initially a vagcom is pretty handy to have :)

good luck  :happy2:

Hi
I have a spare laptop with windows 7 32bit, is there a decent vagcom kit that's not too expensive?
Thanx for all your advice, will let you know what comes up after a vag check..
Cheers Rob.

May put steering wheel up for swap for a normal Gti without multifunction, would that work horn without coding or any other parts??

VCDS is going to set you back £200-£250 but is well worth the layout. The other option is to find a forum member near you with VCDS, most will do a scan for beer tokens :)

THe other option is to replace the steering wheel with a non MFSW
