Title: Can rain sensing wipers be turned off?
Post by: Matthew. on February 11, 2013, 11:04:53 pm
Hi, as per the title, can the rain sensing wipers be switched to normal intermittent wipers?

I hate them with a passion!  :ashamed:

Haha I was just wondering this at the weekend they were driving me nuts, I seem to think mine haven't been on auto all the time it'll be in the manual I just haven't had time to look it up yet.

the stalk has a few different positions, all the way down is completly off, one click up is auto (which is adjusted in sensitivness by the lever ontop of the stalk) and then the next step up is the slowest intermitent and then every click up from there is faster intermitent.

Oh yeah I know that, but is there a way to turn off the rain sensing first notch and have it as an intermittent like you get in non-rain sensing models?

I would love to do this on mine,
Dont temd to use the wipers as i keep the windscreen clean and topped up with rain-x but a intermittent setting would be perfect.

theres a set of options in the display bit (maybe only highline?) it may be possible from there, if not its a VAGcom jobbie id imagine.

I'm a bit bamboozled here, the button on the top of the stalk that would normally adjust the speed when on "intermittent" alters the sensitivity of the auto sensors?

I thought you could either have auto or intermittent?

I thought it was -

All the way down - off
Next up - Auto or intermittent
Then - On/constant
All the way up - Fast

This is just further proof that I dont drive my car often enough  :signLOL:

As far as I know, 1 notch up is rain sensing, the left/right control is to determine the sensitivity of the sensor.

This is right. Also if the wipers are off you can do a single wipe by pushing the stalk down and releasing.

The switch on the top just alters how sensitive the wipers are on auto. All the way left is minimum sensitivity and all the way right is maximum

yep adjusts sensitivety on auto, and i believe also they fine tune the speed on intermitent like it would do on a car without auto wipers.

I hate the rain sensing wipers too.   :fighting:

It CAN be coded off with VagCom but it takes away the auto-dim rear view mirror function too, from what I remember.

I have discovered that they behave erratically when the windscreen is covered in grease / dirt. The infrared sensor thinks it's raining, when instead it is just seeing grease.

Thats no great loss, can't remember the last time someone was blinding me from the rear!!

I find mine quite useful with the amount of *silly people* round here with HIDS in halogen headlights.

Maybe for you, but for me it is a necessity. I require glasses to drive at night as my eyes can't cope with the differing brightnesses of the cars lights and the dark, and the dimming of the rear view really helps with that =/

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed by the rain sensing wipers! One technological advance too far in my book!

I just adjusted mine with VCDS, and I'm very happy with it.

Auto all the way

I think I read somewhere the rainsensing module can be swapped for an intermittent one? Any truth to this?
