Title: Mk5 sound quality vs. Mk6
Post by: john87 on February 14, 2013, 10:14:58 am
My dad recently acquired his new company car (62 plate Touran bluemotion) which came with the RCD310 DAB fitted. I was blown away with the amount of bass available in comparison to the sound in my 2008 Mk5 (with RCD510 fitted).

Now don't get me wrong, the sound has definitely improved since fitting the 510 and is very well-balanced in terms of mids and highs, but is it down to the door design that the car lacks bass? I have also test driven a Mk6 GTI with a 510 fitted which seemed to have much better bass response  surely the door cavity isn't that much different in the mk6 golf?

Not so much a question, more of a rant

I don't think this is the case as it is a base model (not sure exactly) just the 105bhp version..

I'm sure there's something with the new RNS system's and the MK5 that seem to be a little bit of a problem with regard's to the lack of quality and loudness ,my old 2006 GTTDI had a Kenwood double din system fitted and that sounded fantastic but my RNS510 sound's pretty weak compared to that.I've just bought a £1000 Alpine head unit and will be fitting this to my car next week to see how it compares to my RNS510.

the sound from my mk4 was better than the mk5, even with 10 speakers!! the mk4 had bigger speakers lower down on the door which seemed to give far better bass to me.

I was going to say the same thing. I find the sound in my MK5 lacklustre compared to my MK4. It's kinda frustrating, but I just have to deal with it.

I think this is the root of my complaints  :happy2:
