I believe that's before options aswell, stupidly priced and released well to late
-
They should be ashamed of themselves!
-
Looks the boiiiii mind that!
-
Someones smoking something in the marketing department!
Theyve forgotten the roof aswell!

The new Mercedes A45 AMG is cheaper than that!! New engine, new generation car, 360bhp etc. The list is endless of cars you could buy with that sort of money! Also The new MK7 GTI is out soon and the next golf R will be out before you know it.
-
Am i right in saying that some high end manufacturers (such as BMW and Mercedes) are looking to make their cars more affordable (as proven by the M135i and i think the AMG A45)?
VW seem to be going in the other direction and appear to be pricing normal people out!
Just looked back on a pistonheads review of the Ed30 from 2008 - the OTR price for a basic spec was £23k! I know its been five years since and you have to take inflation into consideration but still.....
How much will the MK7 GTI / R / ED40 be? I dread to think.....
-
In my opinion, the MK7 GTI (which i really like) shouldnt be any dearer than 25k. Especially with just 220-230bhp which is a bit behind the competition. The Golf R shouldnt be any more then 30k, especially with the M135i being so affordable and with over 300bhp!!
If they are any more expensive then my estimations I personally think they will be over priced, which would rule me out. I would just give other manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW etc my custom. I never though I would say it but at the moment the luxury brands are turning out to be quite reasonable.
-
I think if you bought an R cabrio and kept it forever as a second car-just to drive on sunny summer days, it would (eventually) become quite valuable.
I'm assuming they'll sell very very few of these which is the basis for my argument.

The 'Edition 40' Is likely to be lighter than the standard GTi but keeping the same BHP. Though adding a 5-plate electronic clutch.

Its just a pumped up GTI cab, might as well get a GTI Cab and remap it
-
Are the Ed. 30 / Golf R Hatch / Golf R Cab / MK7 Edition 40 all TFSI units? OR will the Ed.40 make the switch to TSI with K04 (or equiv. turbo)
Re: Price of this R Cab, absolutely agree, waaay overpriced; however the SAAB 9-3 2.8T Aero convertible was a similar price, and loads of those we're bought, similar power and FWD (although SAAB did go to the wall).

I does just look like the GTI cab with a remap & R styling bits bolted on, they haven't even changed the exhaust from the GTI to the normal R position. The latest cabriolet Golfs aren't really my cup of tea anyway, but does seem very odd.

Shamelessly stolen, but already some replies fit this nicely lol

i'd have an RS3 before i have one of those, and i hate the RS3

It will be a cracking second hand buy in 15 years. :signLOL:
VW are not going mad! they are just expanding the range creeping into the luxury end of the market. The car will have cost very little to develop so wont need lots of sales. Over time!, just seeing the raised prices will trick Joe public into thinking it is a luxury brand like BMW and Merc.
You cant call them mad when they are the only car company who have been making any dosh the last 4 years. I wouldn't argue with their market strategies even though i wouldn't even consider one of these for 30K. The new Boxter is a tremendous car. head, shoulders, body and legs better than the R cab.
