Title: Fitting Skirts
Post by: H DUBS on July 16, 2009, 04:11:17 pm
Hi,

I was wondering what glue/adhesive to use to fit the side skirts. Is there 1 particular brand which everyone uses.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.  :happy2:

Thanks

I haven't fitted my VW/Votex skirts yet, but they come with an Elch Technik P1-Adhesive Kit made by Rhodia Silicon GmbH.  Its a 1 component polyurethane adhesive, but its German made so the skirts will probably never come off again!

Its probably mega hard to get hold of so I'd look at finding your nearest Wurth dealer and hunt down an adhesive from them.  They're another German brand but they sell their automotive products to garages and bodyshops worldwide.

EDIT: Just looked on their site and they also sell 1 component polyurethane adhesive but only recommend using it on wood!  Now I'm going to look for a new adhesive, I'll let you know what I find!

I think the adhesive of choice is Silkoflex, local body shops may be the best bet.

you won't need any adhesive to fit a skirt. Just make sure you buy the right size. Size 10 or 12 etc. Also, don't buy a skirt thats too short, you want to leave something to the boys imagination :)

:signLOL: :happy2: good stitching aswell otherwise it'll fall apart.

On a serious note doesn't the votex skirts come like oem i.e with the heavy duty double sided foam then held on with screws and the fitting strip???

You'd think that for the price you pay for votex they would supply all the proper tools to put them on with.

I thought they would fit just like the GTI ones, but they need gluing.

I suppose VW didn't feel comfortable letting people attack their sills to fit the rail that the GTI ones sit on.
