Title: What would you do?
Post by: camfollower on February 17, 2013, 09:35:47 am
Bought some Mk6 calipers from seller on eBay, although paid outside listing but used Paypal.  Seller has good feedback and seems to be a parts breaker.  Everything was fine, answered all my questions quickly and was very helpful... Until I paid... Then nothing... No calipers or response to mails.

After 10 days of nothing I opened a dispute with Paypal which has escalated into a claim.  He still doesn't respond via mail, eBay or PayPal, yet he's added new parts for sale during this time, and answered a question my mate sent him to test he was getting the mails.

So, what would you do next?  I'm pretty annoyed tbh and worry about getting the money back.

Paypal tends to favour the buyer so you should get your money back.

Paypal will try contacting the seller and give him a few days to respond. Just a matter of time

As mentioned above , Paypal virtually always resolves in the favour of the buyer . Just takes ages .

Cheers, my only fear is it looks like he requested the money into a different PayPal account than his usual eBay one... And PayPal never pay the money out, it's always the seller.

He did tell me he'd received the cash and would send out, but that was it... I like to give people the benefit of the doubt hence leaving it ten days... If he didn't have the callys any longer all he had to do was tell me, but not responding in nearly 20 days (but definitely receiving the mails) just makes him look like a scammer.

Big PITA as I've had to put off fitting the new callys which the car really needs.
If I've learned anything, it's not to deal outside a listing, and even though I didn't, don't send PayPal gifts... I would have absolutely no come back then.

Yikes, that's exactly what happened.

your lucky! When they request funds from you its very easy to bypass protection so you have no come back! So i avoid as a general rule now.

This is the seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/200sxm/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3692

Anyone know of him, dealed with him before?
His feedback is practically perfect, bar 1, been a trader since 2006... he's ignoring mails from Paypal too... just doesn't make sense.  4 days left until Paypal does 'something'

How do you find out where he's based?

Hopefully they give you his phone number too so you can see what he says.

I have been here before, Any communications you have had with the seller can be viewed by paypal . I think the trigger for this is once its put on dispute, You have done this so now the paypal team can read all the mail etc, Did you fund it from a credit card or bank account ? .If it was CC get on to them and back it up in writing keeping a copy .

99.9% they favour the buyer  so im sure you will be ok , I bought a Rolex and it was a fake 100%  I received my money back twice and the seller was livid and was going to come down and kick my head in  very mature , he demanded I return the money and the watch or else, I said you live miles away please either come to my works  or make a appointment  to meet me  my works address is Sussex Police HQ malling Lewes  ,I said just ask at the gate house il pop  out. I dont want you making a wasted journey, Ebay and Paypal dont really care he is back selling after a short ban ,the watch went to rolex fraud team and to my knoledge was scrapped and he must have got one lot of money back, He kept saying sort it out or els , I politly said  you ignored all my mail etc etc and was no help in resolving the issue you thought id let it go and you would rob me,

keep up the pressure and keep it professional and polite.

Thanks for the replies! :happy2:

PayPal concluded in my favour and returned the money after the epic wait

Then I get an email from the seller... bearing in mind I must have emailed, and latterly called a billion times, to say that he missed my mail and has refunded (no, PayPal took the money) and wants to know whether I'd like the calipers!! WTF, yeah to go through it all again, when he had all this time to send them or refund or simply let me know what the f' hell was going on.... no thanks.

This guy sounds like a right arse. I wouldn't do deals outside of an eBay listing if that's what it was, especially to another PayPal account. Glad you got your money back though. =]
