Title: ADVICE needed **
Post by: STU-HILL on February 19, 2013, 12:50:44 pm
Hey fellow GTi adorers!

Looking for advice on replacing the back rear Brake Calipers.   Had VW specialist look at them and say the pistons are corroded and so hardly working. I've noticed that one side is getting very hot now too so I need to get it fixed asap.

Garage gave me a quote of just under 400 for two new calipers plus vat and labour etc.

I have found some 2nd hand ones though and was wondering how easy or hard they are to fit myself?

Any advice much appreciated! Thanks

providing you can get your ca high enough to get enough leverage to take them off. The process isnt difficult removing the bolts maybe.

What he said ^^^^^

I had to replace my rear calipera but could not get car up high enough to get a decent purchase on the necessary bolts. Needs to go on a lift really

If you have the tools to do what it shows in the link bellow then your 50% of the way there.

However, if things go wrong you'll most likely need VCDS tool and a pressure bleeder and your 90% there -  after that you need a bit good luck cause it's possible for both the master cylinder and the ABS module to fail but that's the problem with DIY and used but good spares!
