Title: 2nd Service, how much of a bill to expect?
Post by: cossy on July 17, 2009, 02:37:56 pm
Hi, ye olde ED30 coming up for the 2nd service.

First one cost me £165 @ VW with long life oil.

I believe I will need a brake fluid change at 2 years? I guess this is solely dependant on timescale and not mileage?

Do I need to get this done at VW or would this be in an "included price for the second service?"

Cheers :scared:

It will depend if it is 2nd fixed or 2nd variable.
I have just had my 2nd fixed and that was £240, 1st was £120.

Correct 08 cars officially don't require the brake fluid change until 3 years  :surprised:

This is always quoted separately to the main service cost as well.

TBH  :happy2:

Mines a 57 plate so I expect it will need a brake fluid change.

If I dont have it changed and just go for the service are they going to turn round and sod off if anything goes bang?

Just dont really want to change the fluid yet, it hasnt exactly had a hard life. 3850 miles in 2 years

A 57 plate car can be an 08 model so yours may only require it at the 3 year interval.

Check the service book and it will confirm  :happy2:

Also brake fluid is affected by more than just mileage it can absorb moisture over time so needs to be changed regardless of mileage.

Just had this email back from the stealers with regards to the 2nd service.

Think its abit steep, is it correct though on the parts required?

The vehicle would now be due for its 2nd Longlife Service, the current price for this service is £252.46 inclusive.

This service would be an oil and filter change, air and pollen filter replacement as well as a check over to make sure no problems are arising.

At this time you are quite right in thinking Brake Fluid is due for changing – It is recommended by Volkswagen this is done once every two years. I would advise this is done as it done help to maintain the condition of your brakes. The cost of this is £57.79 inclusive.

What servicing mode are you on (long Life or Time and Distance?)

It says in their email 2nd long life service so I presume your on long life servicing?

Rich.

^^^ That make sense but the dealer is quoting for the full 2nd long life service which requires more than a second T&D service IIRC

I don't think the pollen filter for example needs to be changed until the 4th T&D service (that's when it was first done on mine).

Brake fluid and a/c aren't included in the normal service, they are 'optional' extras if you like.

For a 4 year t&d  service (which is the big one) I paid just under £400 including brake fluid and a/c

£295 for the service (but I didn't need somthing done so it was a little bit cheaper that this).

£49 for the brake fluid.

£75 for a/c service and refresh.

Just got another quote from another local VW.

£195 for service & £49 for brake fluid change.

Stated it doesnt need an air filter yet, while the other garage said it did!

If the dealers cant get their heads round vw servicing what chance have the rest of us got!!!!! :angry015:

Just had a look in the service manual and it says brake fluid after 3 years then every two, even got a nice little sticker saying the same! The service sticker in the window that the dealer fills out has been dated for two years though. They havent a bloody clue ! Anyway going to leave it for another year and if I get any problems will show them the service book showing 3 years :angry015:

This is a complete joke, had three quotes in now from VW dealers and they are all different and they all say I need different parts!

Cheapest £190
Middle £252 (my dealer)
Greatest £287

Some say I need an air filter change, Manual says 4 years or 40K!
Some say I need brake fluid change, Manual says 3 years then every 2!
Some say I sould be on long life service
Some say VW dealers havent a bloody clue when it comes to servicing their cars.

I say I WANT to be on T&D servicing with long life oil, its not difficult to work out when the cars only done 3800 miles, less THAN
20 a DAY, angry you bet :fighting:

Had a right old barny with my VW dealer about this.

This is the problem I beleive.

They have it still on Long Life service regime, even after I said the miles I would be doing.

Talked to them about it when I picked the car up, they said the cars all come with long life set and they would change it on the first service.

They didnt do it, still on long life service! abnd they advised to go on T & D, no Sh*t.

Anyway quote now down to £158 all in with long life oil.
