Anyone have any experience of these?
A lad has expressed an interest in swapping for my GTI, I've driven a DSG once but that was a Audi A4 62 plate TDI.
The car he has is a 2006 Silver 3 door A3 TDI DSG. I'm not sure of the BHP, but told it's a 1.9 Lump.
He's the third owner, and is has 12 months ticket and full service history.
From looking at prices they seem around the same, so I'm happy here. And provisionally trying to see this Saturday. What should I be looking for?
I've read about the Haldex service being a must on DSG cars, is this correct?
What other pointers should I look at, aside from Cambelt, and normal service items, especially with it being a DSG.

A 1.9 in 2006 is 105BHP (not sure of it may be 115BHP in Audi form).
I have that engine in a SEAT and it is sluggish, a remap perks it up no end but still only to ~145BHP.
You'd get around 45MPG around the doors I suspect.
Nice cars, just check the DSG is nice and smooth, with oil changes having been done on time.

Thanks for that. I'm OK with the power side of things to be honest, I'm looking for a TDI and something cheaper to run, which ultimately comes with less power I guess.
Thanks for the notes on MPG and Oil changes, is there any set times for the DSG outside of normal Servicing?

if it is the 2.0 TDi 140bhp (BKD) engine check the code on the engine block as there has been issues with heads cracking. As the car is a 2006 i expect it is a revision "C" which has a significantly lower failure rate.

Thank you!
This is the HPI Info.
Make AUDI
Model A3 SPORT TDI AUTO
Engine Size 1968cc
Colour SILVER
Fuel Diesel
Doorplan 3 Door Hatchback
Engine Number BKD 927464
Transmission 6 Speed Auto Diesel
Date of 1st Registration in the UK 13/11/2006
CO2 Rating 154 (g/km)
With this showing as a BKD, is this always a 140 BJP instead of a 104bhp?
-
Yes it's a 2.0 BKD 140.
I had one for four years. Way better driveability than the 1.9 and even better with a remap :happy2:
Other than the cracked head issue - check the turbo is not wooing excessively, see for leaks on the intercooler hose joint (on floor behind bumper). Probably more but generally good engines with a few horror stories as with any car.
-
Yep 140bhp :)
To check the block revision. Remove the engine cover (lift the front upwards and once it has cleared the dipstick pull/jiggle it towards you) and you are looking for some numbers followed by a letter located under the fuel pipes on the front right hand side.
-
Yup,
140 bhp in the 2 litre (round up 1968cc) diesel. A torque-y engine standard but if you remap it you're looking at 180 bhp and 310 lb/ft torque. I have the Golf GT TDi with this engine (albeit not DSG) and it is pretty rapid for a diesel.
Go for it. :happy2:

Take the car for a long drive, get the engine nice and hot then switch it off and leave it for 5-10 minutes. If when you restart, it takes a little longer to crank then start it is likely the starter motor will need replacing.

Great responses guys, thank you so much for this.
I'm a little excited by it to be honest, appears really clean etc and back in a TDI is way better for me than a GTI, especialyl a DSG

Did they do an S Line version of this vehicle at this time?
From the initial pictures I've been sent, apart from it being dark, and the wheels being horrible and black, I swear it says an S Line badge on it at the drivers rear bump strip.
Thoughts?

The plot thickens, I've been doing some research on what they've sent me, despite saying he wasn't looking to sell the car, I've found an advert on GumTree
"audi a3 sline tdi dsg, 3 door auto, hatchback, diesel, remapped to 170 bhp, silver, black sline wheels, black grill, black spoiler, black roof, tinted windows, half leather sline seats, very nice car please ring for further details. 07732054017 £7800"
However the advert is expired, does anyone know how to tell when it was posted?
http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/audi-a3-tdi-dsg-s-line-sale-7995/111939901
Only thing that puts me off it's remapped, I've found out the seller is around 23, so this makes me think the cars had a hard life over the last 12.
Tried doing a google cache, but couldn't find it anywhere.

Was up for sale in October/November

EDIT: Maybe he has been asking too much for it that's why it has been up for so long, I'd still give it a look but would pay attention to history/receipts.

Brilliant thanks for that mate.
I'm not that put off to be honest as he did say it wasn't for sale at the moment.
I'll have a look at it on Sat and see if he tells me the truth RE Remap etc

yes the 2.0TDI was always available with S-Line, but in the early years the S-Line spec was odd. it only had a boot spoiler and some badges on the inside and outside, and some cars only have interior stuff and others have exterior stuff. then later on it became a proper trim level had a full bodykit (MY06-MY08), half leather and 18" wheels and a different grille.
this car has the full bodykit so must be a proper MY06 car. i can tell because there is no rub strip on the front bumper and the profile is different to the standard one.

Brilliant stuff mate.
I'm going to see it on Saturday and have a look over, so will check out everything said on this thread.
See how it goes.
