Title: Is my car telling shes had enough and its time to say googbye....??
Post by: Jimbo_h on February 21, 2013, 08:39:06 am
Hi all,

I'm pondering if this is the begining of the end for my poor little Leon.

I've had it for 4ish years now and about 1.5yrs ago I had the de-dpf, remap, coilies etc. 1wk later the clutch start to slip, no biggie, thought that might happen. Went for a helix with SMF, what a mistake.

1mth later that needed replacing (long story, can't be arsed telling everyone again). 6mths after that the master/slave clutch cylinder went (was replaced when the first issued occured). 3 weeks ago the spring in cover plate went and the drive plate had cracks all over it (pics below). Now as a result of this the syncro in 1st gear got damaged and you have to be pretty much stationary to get it into gear without a painful crunch, tbh i can live with that. Also when the work was being done my mechanic said 3rd might also play up but after picking the car up its been fine......until last tonight. Now its like 1st but obviously you can't stop and put it into 3rd and carry on, so 3rd is now avoided (anyone know why this might have happened??)

I've been told a new gearbox will cost ££££ and sending it off for a refurb will take 3wks. Is it time to bite the bullet and say goodbye to AJ56. I'll be sad to say goodbye as I can't think of another car for the money thats as much fun (and does 45mpg).

Just to let you know i don't rag the car all over the place but it has now covered 126k miles (got it with 17k)

oh and just to top it off i got a barstewards crack in the windscreen yesterday

Alex I'd also like to know if this is worth seriously considering? Cheers

And Mike, track day sounds great but it'd be errr interesting without third, least of all it would give u a chance of keeping up  :P

Old post I know but the car is booked into Ace Gearboxes in Northampton for a rebuild/repair. Not gonna be cheap but no third gear is getting on my tits. Should be all sorted by the end of next week

Well a helix clutch costs £600ish plus fitting and I've had 3 of them . The gearbox will be £1k.makes me feel a bit
