Title: Crap radio signal
Post by: rf860 on February 21, 2013, 09:55:44 pm
As title, my car has a terrible radio signal compared to my last car (BMW 120d coupe). This is my 3rd VAG group car and they've all been the same tbh. In my local town i can only receive two stations (Radio 1 and West FM). I'm thinking of upgrading to a RCD510 DAB, do you think i will still have this issue with the dab unit? It's really irritating! If there's is something i could do to sort it meantime that would be good too.

Have a test drive in a new MK7 with DAB and if that's the sound your after then it's pretty certain your thoughts will be right and a RCD510 DAB will do the trick!

DAB is the job if you like the radio.

Yeah I've been in touch with him. What's premium8?

Also, how are getting a signal? I was planning on getting the polo dab aerial but its expensive.

i think premium8 is the version of it, don't know what is better than premium7 tho.

thought about polo aerial and extra co-ax cable, but expensive and don't want to mess about with headlining, removing all trim, running under carpets etc etc...
so went for  http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/High_Performance_Internal_Glass_Mount_DAB_car_Aerial.html , arrived this morning, looks smaller than i thought and its tucked right up in top corner of windscreen, don't think i will notice it after a while.

its got 4 stars & they recon its their best windscreen one.

Cheers Paul. Can you let me know how you get on with it and if possible put up a picture of it installed?

I started with a windscreen one - albeit a lesser star version than the one you have bought - so how primly yours will be better than that which was patchy :)

Have since switched to a polo short whip with extension cable to the stereo - not that tricky to be honest, but fingers crossed that internal one is good  :happy2:

I got it second hand from EddieNL on here - it was about half price at £40, then bought a 6m extension lead from ebay (from Poland I think) for a tenner.

Signal is spot on
