Title: Removing side skirts
Post by: alexmccabe on February 23, 2013, 12:30:22 pm
I'm getting my side-skirts painted next week, and today is the only day that I can remove them. I have found a guide on how to do it, and it looks fairly simple but I was just wondering if there was anything I should be weary of, or be careful with?

Get a blade and slice the double sided tape as you take the skirt off... Otherwise you may snap the hanger...

The tape is a killer to get off and you'll need maybe a toffee wheel or panel solvent to get the residue off... Unless you are really lucky and the tape comes off easy (unlikely tbh). Getting back on is easy...

Alright thanks. Nothing is as easy as it should be, is it?

Proving that nothing is as easy as it should be, the one side has a rounded torx screw in it. Cannot get it undone. How do I deal with this? Any help is appreciated.

Put a slot in it with a dremel and remove with a screw driver. The adhesive is better attacked with a heat gun and then 95% will scrape off, finish up with thinners. Good luck.....

Thank you, I don't have a dremel but I used a junior hack saw to cut a hole then luckily a T25 fit when jammed in. Worked a treat. Will try to remove the sticky crap tomorrow.
