Title: Lowering on coilovers
Post by: Bryan on February 24, 2013, 07:20:16 pm
Hi guys!

I have caught the low bug and curently making my mind up on which coilovers to buy....

Question is, how low can i go on 18" pescaras with 22/40/18 tyres?

Reason why i ask is because im not a fan of over stretched tyres from a saftey point of view so would prefer to keep my standard size wheels/tyres.

Thanks
Bryan

You can go low enough!

Nice looking Jetta!! What coilovers are you running?? I'm on joms atm wound right down. Apparently they give a 100 mm drop but mines not looking anywhere near as low as yours...  :notworthy:

FK highsports - 10mm left on the back & 15mm. Left on the front I think. Centre of wheel to arch is -74mm!!

It's indeed sitting lovely...I'm thinking I'm going to have to bite the bullet and junk the cheapo joms...

my car on the bbs vz et 44 with 225/40/18 on fk silverline 20mm thread left up front with no helper spring and cant remember the back

my front arches are rolled so i don't rub but i reckon 10/15mm higher with stock front wings should get no rubbing

Mmmm.....your car looks spot on!! Exactly what im after
Do you have any rubbing issues?
I take it speed bumps are a no no?

with full lock the arch just touches the tyre but if it was another 5mm higher would be fine

the rear has a 5mm spacer on atm making it et39 and it touches the arch liner on big dips in the road so going to try 3mm but is clear without a spacer

I have to go over a speed bump to get in the driveway but other than that i avoid them at every chance  :signLOL:

mines on 225/40/18 on 7.5x18 Phaeton champions et54. still scrubs a little on the arch liner, but not on the metal itself. Also The FK's were only about £80 more expensive than the Jom's.

I saw them on ebay - cant remember who - £280 delivered

FK direct seem to do deals on coils from time to time. Keep an eye out on their site as you can get notifications if they drop below a certain price :  http://www.carparts-tuning.co.uk/

Thanks Phicksy for the heads up on the site...ill have to keep my eyes peeled! Looking at the few pics i have of my Jetta it does look quite low, on the back ive still got the option of removing the adjusters so that'd give me another 10mm or so but im still not sure on the joms.

Heres a quick shot of my car before it got dark tonite (sorry about the poor quality, my phones cameras on its way out)

Just running these repro Audi rims for the winter (with 225/40/18s),  im hoping to get my hands on some 0.05s for this summer

They do suit the car... I was going to go 8.5 front and back but the more i see the 9.5s on the back the more i like them! Are you running 215/45 and 225/40s on them??

they tyres them came with are 215/40 and 225/40 but mat possibly go with a 225/35 to give a bit more clearance

Great looking wheels and surprisingly light the rear concave is

I should think you'll have some rubbing issues on the back running as low as you are!

Ive read some people have had to have the rears rolled slightly to fit the 9.5s... My route to work is not great, bumpy to say the least but luckily i dont rub atm. The last thing i'd want to have to do is start cutting about my inner arches but i guess its what you have to do in the persuit of lowness  :notworthy:

the rear just needs some camber and the stretched tyres to give you enough room to run the 9.5  :happy2:

I was running 215/35/18 on eibach coliovers no back adjusters from 3 threads left.... on 225/40/18 I was catching a bit only on dips on the road at the rear but mine don’t really sit that low.

Will be fitting 9.5 on rear and can give update on that once done… running 225/35/19 on that...
