Title: LED Rear Light 'Polo' Mod
Post by: Kalpsn2000 on February 25, 2013, 11:13:56 am
Hey guys

I remember reading about it a while ago but can't find the thread/article.

I'm looking for info to make the rear outer lights have a 'polo' effect when on, rather then the whole light being on. Basically want the centre circle to only come on when braking.

Can this be done via VCDS or do you need to get physical?

Not looking to do the 'skyline' mod, i.e. make the inner lights LED, right now.

Thanks
Kalpesh

I've had it where it only shows the inside half of the outer ring and the full ring when braking. Are you saying you want just the outer half of the outer ring on unless braking. Like this (...............)?

Like mine below Kalpesh?

It is only coding that's required, only the outer portion of the LED's are lit and then the whole unit lights up when the brake is applied. Does need the inner units doing now IMHO.

Sorry for the dodgy pic, the lights are red, honest.

I read up about this a few months back,

You have to solder a small wire on the bulb carrier. A few people who had pre 07 golfs had no problems but others had bulb out warning on the dash board.

I would like to know if there is a coding way for UK cars. I know on US models it can be done via coding.

Yes that's exactly what I'm looking for Martin :happy2:

How can I do that? What coding needs doing?

It should be the full ring as standard. I sorted Richwig's out the other week. If you have access to VCDS send me your long coding for address 09 and I will take a look at it.  :happy2:

Not on the Valeo LED light clusters (which i and Kalpesh have) as the whole unit is lit when the park lights are on, to get the "Polo" look, it needs coding.

@ Kalpesh
I had mine coded by a chap who mainly frequents the R32OC site. Try Eddie or have a look through this thread from the golfmkv.com site......

Its already like this on a standard car is it not? A full ring and then half a ring on braking?

I think this can be done but from memory meant soldering a jumper wire across the lamp holder. The problem with this is that it throws a bulb failure warning.

"Copied from that German link above seem late 2005 onwards needs something changing in the electrical contoller?, for this mod to work.

'At model year 2006, as well as late model year 2005 byte 19 bits 3 must be set in the electrical system controller!"

May want to take note of that aswell
