....
As most of you already know, I'm not especially into detailing - I spend a couple of hours handwashing my GTI but only when she gets dirty. So that can be once every 4-6 weeks and only if the weather allows outdoor cleaning. I use Meguiar's NXT Generation car wash and a lambswool mitt and big waffle(?)/microfibre cloth thingy.

However, I am more inclined to wash the alloys more often. I am changing the finish on my diamond-cut alloys to powdercoated, in order to keep out the dreaded 'white worm'. It's a common issue and I don't understand why VAG continue with it as it results in a lot of warranty claims.

So, when my alloys are powdercoated, what do you recommend please for cleaning and protecting them?
Thanks +++

If you wash them regular you should only need just normal mild soap, then poorboys wheel sealent. thats what i reckon.

....Well, right now today, they probably are totally stripped but they should be powdercoated and ready for Saturday's mega-meet.
:happy2:
Meanwhile, my Monza 17's are back on : -

Any sealant should do the trick on the rims Robin.
Clean them with a degreaser or car soap - not kitchen cleaner lol and let them soak a bit. Agitate them with a normal paint brush or if you are feeling posh use a "Meguirs/ Zaino/ Swissvax Wheel cleanser" :P  and then rims them down. Use a normal MF to dry them off and take the car around the block not only to remove other water on the car but also from the rims.

Thanks, Mike :happy2:
I've got a very container of VIRO-SOL citrus cleaner and degreaser and so spray with that, followed by just gentle water-hose while using Meguair's alloys soft brush and then wipe dry with absorbant paper kitchen roll.
-
No no
All good until the kitchen paper towel
rather dry it with a microfibre because the microfiber cloth will absorb whatever remaining dirt and grime possibly stays behind and wont scratch the rims...
Whereas your kitchen towel traps the dirt (As it has zero abosrbing "powers" and drags the sand/dirt/dust particles over the rim surface scratching the rims and dulling the look of your rims and such.
If you used a kitchen cloth on the Monza's then thats probably why you got the whiteworn (assuming of course you didnt curb them etc).

I normally soak the alloys with water, spray on Megs alloy wheel cleaner, leave for a bit, scrub with an alloy brush, try to remove the stubborn stains in the corners with a mf mitt, rinse, wipe dry, use ag srp, seal with pb wheel sealant.
-
Thats perfect Stealthwolf :driver:
Only prob is this part:
try to remove the stubborn stains in the corners with a mf mitt
I sort of read it as- "try to remove stubborn stains in the corners with a milf"

One day I want to look at your hardrive robin :rolleye:

Red, I did this the other week and if you wash them regular you really dont need anything other than Lambs wool mitt, and ed brush. Honestly a quick wash once a week, once sealed and the dust and dirt just falls off. :jumping:

I use Meguiars Wheel Brightener, watered down 10:1 in a sprayer bottle. Its under £20 for almost 4 litres and makes around 40 litres of decent wheel cleaner, a darn site cheaper than "Hot Rims" and just as good. A cheapy wheel brush from here is perfec for GTI 17" or 18" wheels, give it a slight bend and it will reach the back of your wheels, leaving them looking like new.

Its cheap, does the job and lasts. I now have 3 of these, still look like new after a year.
-
Same as the other guys really Robin, but I like to add a coat of finishing wax once every two weeks (collinite FTW!) and tend to seal only once every 2 - 3 months  :happy2:
-
I wash, then towel dry the alloys on my S-line A4 then use AG wheel sealer which puts a shine on them like nothing else.
Would defo recomend it.
