Funding 888s / semi slicks may be too pricey so Im wondering what the best road going tyres are for track days?
F1 Assy v2?
Ps3?
PSS?
R1R may be a option if they last longer than 888s?
Any opinions or suggestions?

yoko ad08.... perfect for both road/track use and should last OK if used on the roads a lot :happy2:

Wouldn't it be bext to have 2 sets of wheels/tyres rather than compromise using a road tyre on track and trying to use a track tyre on the road?

I do have 2 sets of wheels :happy2:
Just thinking performance road tyres are a bit cheaper and can resort to using them if need be.
The turinis are getting Hankook v12s

Just keep your eyes peeled for a ready supply of used semis, I've never bought a new set. Best find was to snag a set of unused DZ03Gs for £350, did 3 track days on them and sold them for £350.
AD08s are getting great reviews, and seem to last forever too. :happy2:

As you have 2 sets of wheels it doesnt make sense to get a compromised tyre (as has been said above).... just get some proper track tyres for your track set.
Or stop gaying about... get a cage in and some slicks!

ive run supersports on previous cars.. and i ad08's.. the ad08s seem to get brilliant reviews but i didnt think they where very good personally

Hi mate, just purchased a set of these for the summer :smiley:... how come you didnt rate them? spoke to a few guys that run them on focus ST and RS only last week and they said the only issues they had was hitting standing water. :scared:

Mike, your car has enough chassis mods bolted to it to make running normal high performance road tyres feasible IMO, just keep an eye on the tyre pressures and temperatures. Too much grip will be boring as well.
But for the price of top end high performance tyres you could get some RSRs. I think they are a great tyre.

Just get some non-road legal compound slicks, a second hand set will be cheap and if you've got a second set of wheels why not?

Slicks yes you need a cage. Compound slicks you're fine without (well I've not been refused admittance yet :innocent:)

I dont see the point of slicks on a track day. Your not competing and it soon gets boring driving round everyone. It needs to be a serious hobby if you want to put slicks on, you will be by passing the point of track days before you learn to drive a bit. :wink:

True, just that you can get them cheap if u buy pre-used ones.

Thats why the reckon the GT86 is such a great car to drive. Not because its fast or sets the ultimate, but because its got the perfect amount of grip (from the same size tyres as a prius) to allow it to slide about and be a joy to drive.

great Holger,
but i don't agree with the Michelin Pilot super sport, they were as capable on track as the Toyo R1R, and very easy to read from the drivers seat, along with no need to deflate for track due to the twaron used. So you need them a category down also along with where they are.

I agree with this entirely. I ran slicks (2nd hand Dunlops from a Radical) on my track car for a couple of seasons, and whilst the grip was hilarious once they were warm, I've since had more fun driving the car with AD08s. Slower, yes, but more fun as you can play with the balance at lower speeds with a more progressive grip transition. I prefer the AD08s to 888s on my car, as they appear more consistent and harder wearing.
What's the TFSI engine like for oil starvation when used on track with high grip tyres? Both cars I use on track have a baffled sump / semi-dry sump to try and mitigate the chances of oil starvation death.

Still not on a par with the PSS or the new P Zero Silver.
A great daily though and seems further improved since it has been first introduced.
Agree with the slicks. You just can can run them in the dry and lateral force will be
so high, they might cause failure to engine and suspension.
Yoko AD08 are a great compromise and you'll drive to the track safely on these.
Don't forget the RE070 which are stunning value, if you want 17".
