Hey guys,
Just had this lovely light come on... Anyone know what it could mean, worst/best scenario?

Catalyst fault.

Is it flashing or solid?
Does seem to be emissions related...

I have the same light on at the moment on my car. It's the exhaust system warning light and could be on of lots of differnet faults.
You need to find out what errors have been recorded.
I have a warranty and when VW read the errors, they had to send the infomation off to VW as they didn't have a set fix for the issue. VW than came back and it needs to go on tommorow for an oil pressure test and then go from there. They did mention timing chain tensioner as one possiblilty.
I have had the light go on for a bit and off for a bit for a while now, no issue with performance or driving the car.
edit:
I just went and topped up the oil, started the car and the light has gone out. Maybe the light comes on as the oil runs low? Still I'm getting a free courtesy car so may as well let VW sort it out.

Thanks for your help as always. It has gone now for whatever reason... I'll monitor it but don't know if I should get it looked at anyway what do you think?
-
What was you doing when it came on?
Had this quite a while ago, the car would stutter and misfire when accelerating followed by that flashing then going out
Turned out to be a coil pack in the end but could also be worth checking the spark plugs too :happy2:

Thanks Dave. Was driving for an hour and a half, stopped into Starbucks with the Misses, come back out and it come on when I put the ignition on. Had the coil pack changed at VW along with the Spark plugs not too long ago so I'm mythed, could it be oil pressure, or the cat? I wonder if the AA will scan it for me...

I've just added to my post above as it's gone out again!
-
Get it scanned... it could be a hundred things.
It wont be oil pressure though.
-
They'll switch on and off as they will be on key turn cycles...
-
Ah right I see. So the problem may still be there it's a matter or when it comes back on?

Ive had this on a previous car which turned out to be a shot lead. Another thing to check.
