do short trips and low milage affect the tdi much
i have all ways thought that diesels can become clogged up etc when doing short journeys?
for me i do 4 - 5 miles to work. so around 10miles round trip then i may pop out and do another 10 mile round trip every other day. so lucky to do 20 miles a day
am i right in thinking this is bad for diesel engines and could expect it to cause problems more often than a petrol?
reason i ask is im thinking of getting a gti or edition 30. i know the mpg is a fair bit less than diesel but for the millage i do, im thinking im not going to benifit from the diesel.

I sold my 2.0 TDI as I did 3000 miles between MOT's last year, it isn't good for it as you barely get the engine up to temperature on short journeys - if at all. It also offsets any economy gains when the car is running cold.
They do need a good regular blast to clear out the crud, when the engine is warm of course!

You do more than me as i do a mile a day

Be best to go for a good blast once a week, I do around 30 miles per day to work and back, then probably 5-10 after work. Then go for a good run on a weekend just to make sure its all well and good.

Is that round trip?

Yeah it sure is :laugh:I walk to work unless its chucking it down with rain

I am in this situation too, gone from doing 30 miles a day to 3. Engine temp doesn't budge a mm.

hopefully non of you short trip boys are running DPFs ?

No, i'm decatted too. Think it might be time to sell the old girl, can't think of anything to replace it with, maybe an EOS Auto, go old man style!!
