Title: Financing car parts?
Post by: Miller_d on March 05, 2013, 06:44:23 pm
Anyone know if there's places that allow you to finance car parts?

Looking to get a forge FMiC and neuspeed throttle body pipe.

I'm currently buying a numberplate so trying to finish the car is hurting the wallet

Again none of my business but I wouldn't recommend it. We live in a world now where people are tricked into thinking we can afford something we can't. Just buy it when you have the cash for it. If you never have the cash for it, then it's probably something you should knock on the head

Save up and buy it cash - you'll feel so much better about it when it arrives and you'll save yourself a packet in interest!

As said, save for it, another thing to think about is if the parts break or wear out you are still going to be paying for something that is useless!

Save for it and you will enjoy it more  :happy2:

Lol, you're making a mistake asking that question round here. All you'll get is the holier than thou anti-finance stance.

Any reason why a general purpose loan wouldn't suit?

Tescos do 16 months 0% interest on purchases with their Clubcard Credit Card.

And that is what has happened by and large.

I don't understand how you'll 'enjoy it more' if it's paid outright. If I bought a Mk7 GTI on finance I think I'd enjoy it every bit as much as if I paid for it from my bank account.

I normally pay for my expensive mods on credit card then pay it back over the next couple of months.

I dont see a problem with using credit to buy things for the car as long as you are careful and dont let the debt get too big.

A 20 odd grand car is a bit different from a couple of hundred pounds worth of mods.

It's not the amount, it's the principle.

If I borrow 50p to buy a packet of smarties they'll taste just as good.
If I borrow 300k to buy a house I like I'll enjoy living in it.

If I don't like smarties or I buy a poor quality house I will be disappointed.

I don't really follow your point? I don't really follow my own point either however!

But the smarties will be gone once you've eaten them!  :popcornsoda:

I suppose I could decide not to eat them, leave them in storage and hope they appreciate?

Did you know that 20p pieces fit nicely into a Smarties tube? They're a handy 'stealth' piggy bank as long as nobody picks up the tube - the weight gives it away.

I suppose the point is that people have different attitudes regarding finance. Whether or not you'll enjoy something more because you have put yourself through blood, sweat and tears to save for it is purely down to the individual.

If you're impatient like me then you'll not be particularly bothered about sensibly financing purchases. And my guess is that you'll not enjoy them any less because of it.

Its still blood sweat and tears. You have to pay it back.

My Argos card is great. Why should I pay for something now when for no stress at all I can pay in 9 months?

Shame they don't do car parts, well actually now its a relief.

I dont see the issue with it at all.

I had the money for a new car but decided to buy it using a credit card instead. The interest free period gave me enough time to pay it off and the savings i had, gained interest. You just have to be disciplined and not get too carried away with the shopping.

Taking advantage of cheap credit card or loan offers of 0% is exactly the same as saving up - you're just doing it in reverse.

I tend to have a slush fund for fun, but I'd still not berate someone for using the above to buy mods. Just please don't go doing anything with stupid interest rates or overloading the price to include 'free' credit.

I think you need to stop taking the smarties immediately until you know why they are making you talk like this.  :rolleye:

Thank you all for your replies. It's not the case of not having money to do the job, it's a case of hidding the price from SWMBO! I spoke to demon tweets who have giving me 0% so that's sorted all I needed to finish the golf

Very True :happy2:

I thought I was 'finished' a couple of times but there is always something else that tempts you...hence why it's called the slippery slope of modding
