Title: Mk5 Edition 30 Prices
Post by: T6 SUR on March 06, 2013, 10:01:20 am
Looking around for an edition 30 guys.

What do you think is reasonable to pay for a candy white 3dr version with around 50k on it?

Ive seen silver ones priced at around £11,500 with just under 50k, but should i be expecting to pay around 1-2k more for a candy white one?

Cheers

Utter madness. Although if you can afford to spend 1-2k on paint why not?

its still a a very popular colour and you dont see many white ed30 about so its held the prices of the car up

^^^Yes I believe so. I suppose everyone's different and colour is more important for some than others.

I just can't get my head around it; if it was £100 or £200 ok, but 1-2k seems an inordinate premium. You could have a full respray for that much.

As above ,expect to pay around £12k+ for a minty fresh Candy. Utter madness, buying a car based on its colour!

(He says, on his 4th 3dr red car in a row  )

Tornado red is worth it though.

I'd happily pay 4-5k more for red; it not only looks great, but it's an established fact that it handles better, shaves 2secs off the 0-60 and gets better mpg

There's not many for sale on Autotrader, prices asked seem to be relatively static which is nice.

On the other hand, prices seem to be holding up on MK6 GTi's, which is not nice. Well, unless you have a MK6.

£5k to swap from ED30 to MK6  is a bit of a jump - its 50% more..

For the 2k extra in paint, you could get NQSBBK, CAI, TBE, Springs and Map with some left over for bits and bobs.  White is nice, but not THAT nice!

issue i have is that i want candy white, but when i see silver ones for sale on a forecourt for 11k, how can i justify spending 13k on a candy white one for sale privately

Yes you can, because that's the colour you want - will you get it back when you sell it? some of the difference, but not all of it. Is it worth it? to you yes because you'll kick yourself if you don't get the colour you want, to others no.

Its your money do want you want - your here for a good time, not a long time.

Depends how much cash you've got mate... I know I'd have way much more fun with the bits listed above than the colour of paintwork. But if you've got the cash, go for both :happy2:

Candy white is deffo the way to go. In the 3 years I've had mine I've only ever seen two others on the road and one was a good mates. Don't see many about at all. That's just my opinion though.

Candy White - £500-750 max extra over any of the other colours.

Spoke to VW about trading my DBP one in against an R. Was pleasantly surprised that reduction in value in relation to mine being an EU import is "neglible" as it is all down to spec and condition and history of my car shows up fully on their database anyway.

At the time I sold my 08 Candy there were red/silver/black ones going for £11000, Candy commands about £750-1000 more in my opinion, good spec adds more still and 5 doors more so again.

Jabbalukes old car must have have had about 4 owners since I saw it last year  :signLOL:

Red ones and Grey ones should be worth less as they look gash.  Anyone who is selling one of those rubbish colours PM me and I'll take it off your hands

In all seriousness, how do you think DSG affects price?

Having lived with an SMG M3 I'm quite keen on the idea of a DSG but haven't tried one so I'm not sure if I'd willingly pay a premium over manual.  Do they tend to be worth more?

P.s, Just realised this is my first post and I haven't introduced myself- I'll do that now!

Put it this way, you won't want SMG after you've tried DSG.

Worlds apart :happy2:

DSG cars do sell for a higher price. Cheaper Ed30's are manual and normally a lower spec. I was quite shocked that low spec ed30's are from 8.5k whereas better spec'd Dsg models go for around 11k as an average

Oh, and I'd price mine the same as this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/volkswagen/golf-gti-mk5-mk6/volkswagen-golf-mk5-gti-edition30-t-230-2008/1136587

It took me over a year to find a Candy White Editon 30, with Xenons, Rear Tints, Manual and that had been properly looked after, serviced correctly etc

Yeah SMG was awful in auto mode, only ever used it in manual and it was great fun and made the car feel more special. The only downside I felt was that I was tempted to play with the gears for the sake of it just because it was fun
Probably would have got used to it but the car wasn't mine so only had it for a couple of months.

I realise DSG is meant to be really good in auto mode as well as quicker and smoother than SMG in manual so I'm keen to have a shot of one to decide if its worth the premium.

Ok, all the Candy White (Domestic appliance white) boys have had there say, but what about prices in general for the non 'victims of fashion', ED30 owners?

Wasn't so long ago you couldn't give a white car away, lol.

Absolutely, white cars used to be a big no no, for resale value didn't they... I reckon it's a lot to do with Apple products making white shiny things fashionable.

I do esp. like white GTI's with black rims and black wingmirrors
