Title: Shona the Jetta!
Post by: Trev. on March 06, 2013, 11:01:15 am
I owned a Fabia vRS for 9 months and loved it, was my first derv and to be honest couldnt own a petrol again.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fad221%2Fcivictrev%2F2E90EE1F-DDA5-4F9E-96C2-ACE755395E92-119-0000002104EE7F8B.jpg&hash=41f64c7d005d79977f99b0206f670a836e30d187)

Was lowered on springs
Remapped to 180bhp/300lbsft and went really well, loved it!

But when i found out that me n my fiancee were expecting our first child in june i decided that the wee fabia was just to small, offered it up for swaps on svag and this came up.

2006 plate Jetta SE 140.
80k Full service history with belts done.
Kenwood double din Entertainment system
Freshley powdercoated 18" Dare River NK1 Rims (With Kerb Marks lol)
Black Painted Front grill and black painted front and rear badges
and Led lights!
Car has cruise control as standard, home comming lights.

Went and seen it and loved it, massive boot, more refined and grown up than the fabia and i accepted the swap.

Plans wise, the back brakes needed done so discs pads and a new rear caliper were fitted last night.

Mods wise
Lower it, need suggestions on that as im unsure on springs or coilovers, need comfort as i drive 60miles a day but want nice lows!
Angel Tuning remap to about 185bhp & 305lbs/ft
312mm front brake upgrade as ive heard you only need carriers, discs and pads? Calipers are the same? Would be happy if someone could confirm that!

And spend alot of time tidying it up, cleaning it!

I told you that about the brakes already!
Nice to see you made it over to here though - there is a plethora of very usefull stuff that you can pick up on here. I found it far more friendly than the other forum I frequent a good deal!

You mention Angel Tuning, have you heard of/thought about Brotek in Peebles? They offer Shark Performance remaps, I can only speak highly of Shark. Currently running 182 bhp and 300 lbs/ft torque. :driver:

Welcome along Trev.
Plenty of jetta's on here now, plenty of choice and advice.
I also drive 60-70 miles a day for work and went for B12 kit instead of coilovers. Really depends on how low you want to go.

Interesting name Jessie, why?

I'm on a new Angel map - its one of their 185/305 maps - and its great - works out im now well into an average of 60.3mpg on the run to and from work sticking just below 60mph and keeping it in 6th as much as I can!

Used angel before and rate them very highly, only reason! Trust paul fully!

As for jessie, always name my cars, girl names and like the sound of jessie!

As for suspension, ive used eibach springs on 3 cars ad rather liked them, need to figure out money etc! Find a budget!

Nah made that mistake before with a woman, not a good choice!

Wont be getting driven hard until all the brakes are done, decent tyres and lowered!

Right internet braniacs, is it front brakes from a mk5 golf gti that will fit this? and are they 312mm as standard lol?
Title: Re: Re: Shona the Jetta!

The 1.9 tdi has 50mm hubs and 282mm discs , the 2.0 tdi should have 55mm hubs and 288mm discs as standard ...not sure if the 170tdi has 312mm discs but it might have as b6 passat 2.0 140 has 312mm as standard ..think you will need different caliper carriers to fit 312mm discs ...why not fit r32 334mm discs and calipers ??

Modifying on a budget due to new house and baby on the way, seen a set for £150 with discs and pads thats all!

Guessing the 334mm brakes are expensive aswell!

The 345mm setup is usually £300+, you also need 17" OEM wheels as a minimum with them.

Just fitting GTI or GT170 (and similar VAG cars) caliper carriers means you can take 312mm discs (caliper and pads are the same as 288mm setup). Changing just carriers means no brake bleeding is necessary.

I did that on my old car and there was a nicer but very subtle feel when braking.

Well not much to update on this.

Got all my pulleys etc greased up yesterday as there was a slight squeek now drives a bit better but im changing the MAF sensor today as it seems to be a bit low on mpg only getting 43ish on motorway!

Oh and ive got a set of wind deflectors on the way!

They were just a random listing. Mk5 GTi, audi a3 Quattro (but not the early ones) think they are the 8p chassis code ones.
