Post by: ripmateyy on March 06, 2013, 07:36:16 pm
My friend has some finger prints in his paintwork, he washed it the other day and they didnt go away, now I recon that washing down with APC and then clay baring it should get rid of it? What do you guys think?

I got some pictures but they aren't fantastic ill upload in a second.

Difficult to see in pics but depends on where the marks are in the paintwork. If superficial and on the clearcoat, will be polished out. Any deeper and it will be very difficult.

Wow, that was fast  :signLOL:

What sort of polish would you recommend? Would my above method not work? Hoping its just in the clear coat

Could it be suncream?

If it is its very, very difficult to remove, something to do with the silicon content

We've got the same on our silver Passat and I was going post shortly about them, they we're on it when I got it and are kid sized, I've tried all sorts and they just keep coming back. The sun cream theory sounds interesting.

I'm pretty certain it's sun cream. Needs a hefty machine polish to remove

I would start with a de greasing with strong APC mix or maybe something like crudzilla from dodo is what I use then try with a mild polish like super resin first if that doesn't work try with a slightly more abrasive compound after. Follow this with a repeat stage of the polish and a glaze and see how if that has luck or if your short on products like that then some one with some machine polishing skills should have that out no problem :)
