Hi guys
I picked up a mk 5 GTi on Tuesday and need to get the cam belt and water pump changed. I've driven Honda's for the last seven years and found a great Honda specialist throught the Type-r-owners forum.
I was just after some garage recommendations for any future servicing that needs doing. I've contacted Autotechnic, my local VW dealer and The Phirm, but have not had a response from The Phirm as yet. If you have any suggestions around the Guildford/Woking area that'd be great. I'm happy to travel to get a decent service at a reasonable price.
Thanks

I have a friend who recently did a minor service on my TDI for £150. I had all filters but the air filter changed. He works during the week at a VW dealership as a manager I believe. Very reliable guy, based in Yateley & travels. Could give you his number if you want :happy2:

There is a VW specialist in Hersham... Wheelbase.
-
I use this chap for my GTI, not too far from Woking/Guildford I think, previous owner did a cam-belt change with him too.

AMD Woking are good. Ring Simon and he'll sort you out. The brabus smart car courtesy car is terrible though!! Ha ha :happy2:

Thanks for the replies I'll phone round and get some prices. Quotes range from £469 (dealer) to £404. Ideally if I can get cam belt and water pump for £360-£375 that wouldn't be too bad.
Hmmmm AMD wanted £450 for it.

Give Matt Green a call... He did my last service. Did a good job :happy2:

Say Chris sent you. Lowered Blue mk5 1.9 TDi. Did a service a few weeks ago.

Personally I'd trip down the A3 to Portsmouth and JKM. :happy2:

vgsuk.com are quite near Purley iirc, did my cambelt including tensioners and rollers, all VW genuine parts for £349 inc VAT, they seem like good guys and they love a Mk5 GTi!

I was there yesterday having some bits done. I'm always quite happy to make the 120 mile round trip fot their great service (as always), reasonable prices, fantastic knowledge of the 2.0T FSI engine and to top it off their lovely peeps too. Their Cambelt/Waterpump price is £389.
JKM Performance prices..

I have always used Duncans in Byfleet for all my VW's. They have excellent VW/Audi experience and are incredibly honest.
However, I had my last service done by Storm Developments in Aldermaston, as they were doing cam follower, DV change and remap all in the same day to minimise time off work. They did a brilliant job whilst I looked around their showroom browsing supercharged Audi R8's, modified 997 Turbo's, a 700bhp S3, Golf G60's, R32 Turbos etc etc...

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I ended up booking the car in with SE Autoworks down in Guildford. It's really convenient and they said they'd do the cam belt (tensioners) and water pump for £380. Their labour rates seemed really competitive and the chap I spoke to seemed to know his stuff.

I'll let you know how I get on. It's booked in for the 18th March.

How did it go mate?
-
I'd be interested in how you got on too
-
Apologies for the delay in responding.
SE Autoworks were spot on. I had an oil change, cam belt and water pump replaced using VW parts and the bill came to £390. I was really happy with the service and would certainly recommend them.
